Options for Replacement Exhaust

Hi. Here goes:
I am still driving my 2007 4Runner LTD every day. 14 years after being released from the factory the horrors of Canadians winters and road salting have finally rotted out the muffler and tailpipe. I am a bit of an OEM fanatic and have had it serviced religiously at the local Toyota Dealer. I asked for a quote and to go with a new OEM muffler and tail pipe it will run me $1050 (CDN) for the parts and $250 for installation. I don't want to go with the tinfoil after market muffler that last a year but I don't think I'll get the value out of OEM on a 14 year old truck.

I started looking into options like Magnaflow etc. I like the quiet nature of the OEM muffler and I'm not looking for any sort of growl or highway drone (The Toyo Open Country tires give enough hwy drone).

I am putting this out to the group for an opinions on options for a muffler and tail pipe combo that will be more pleasing to my wallet. If Toyota will charge me 1300 plus tax then I'm hoping I can find something decent in the 600-700 range....

How is the Walker holding up to Ontario winters and salt?

I just threw a Gibson cat back on my 07 SR5 2 weekends ago and was surprised by how quiet it is. Plus under $400 for a stainless catback is pretty darn good price wise in my opinion. Just be careful as they sell the same system for all 4Runners from 03- current regardless of engine so there are a couple different pieces to use depending on your application. In my case they marked the tailpipe sections wrong and I fought with it for a couple hours before finally trying the tailpipe marked as being for the 5th gen yota which fit perfectly.

The Walker Quiet-Flow SS muffler was on my 2003 Limited, which got traded in back in 2016 for my current 4Runner. So I don't have any long-term update to provide. What I did like about it at the time of purchase (after doing my research) was the stainless steel construction (durability) and the limited lifetime warranty (piece of mind). That, and the cost savings over buying OEM.

I got about 3 years out of the Walker exhaust before it fell apart. The welds rusted all the way through and the flanges deteriorated.

Spray it with VHT Flameproof coating and you should get another year or 2 of service.

Hi. That’s the problem. The truck is coming up on 14 years old and every year I keep thinking I will sell it but it just keeps working so well. I also just sank a big chunk of cash into a full service with a fluids, a new caliper, new wheel bearing etc. I figure I now have to drive it another year to get the value out of it. As for the muffler - it is looking like an OEM muffler for same sound and performance but the tailpipe is aftermarket - it will be painted as noted above. So - I honestly don’t know how long I will drive it. It is only at 250,000 km.
