Orange Bumper lights question

I noticed that other 4 runners orange bumper lights(next to the fogs) are on and mine are never on. Even with my lights on , I cannot get the orange ones to light up. What gives? Is this a Daytime running light thing?

Yes. It is the DRL.

The DRL's stay on when the headlights are off or the parking lights are on. When the headlights turn on, the DRL's go off. Here is a picture of what they look like:

Yes, the orange lights are the DRLs. I can spot a 4R about a half mile down the road when I see those orange lights. They look great.

I actually called my stealership to have these installed because as explained in one of the other threads, all it is is a relay change. However, the stealer did not recommend me doing it because of some crap about wiring and dangers...who the hell knows.

Just do it. It was like $35 for the relay from Partznet and about 15 min worth of work. The relay is located on the back of the fusebox. Just remove the lower dash, unscrew the fusebox, pull it forward (no need to remove any wires) and the relay is just sitting there on the backside of it....I did mine a few months ago and I love it...I think, subjectively of course, that people do see me better in that I don't get cut off as often.....

When I bought my 4R I was emphatic about not wanting DRLs and if the 4R came with them I was going to disconnect them.
Well the 4R did come with them and I've changed my mind, I REALLY like 'em.

All Canadian 4Runners must have DRLs. Like someone said above.. so much easier spotting another 4runner.

Yes, they are DRL's (mandatory in Canada.) They are also the turn signal.

In fact, the justification for DRL's came from studies in Canada showing their effectiveness at reducing collisions.

In addition, some insurance companies even offer discounts for vehicles with DRL's. They consider that a safety feature so if you decide to install them, make sure to look into that.

Just go ahead and order the relay and install it. It's pretty simple though it took me a while to get the original relay disconnected.

I especially like how the DRL uses the turn signal lights instead of running the headlamp bulbs at lower power, makes it look better.
