This site tempts me almost weekly. Land Cruisers Direct is a bit unclear on some items on their site but to anyone who's interested - keep the following in mind:

• Don't finance if you can help it. Banks don't like to give loans on vehicles that don't exist in their system; they don't know the value (or lack thereof).
• Have fun getting insurance. Again, grey market imports don't exist on the standard database with a value they trust attached to it.
• Titling is going to be a PITA. It's unclear from Land Cruisers Directs' site, but if they title it for you in Missouri, you pretty much will have no issues titling in your home state. If they don't and leave it to you, go look elsewhere.

I've had a few friends import through Japanese Classics and they are a breeze to work with (they handle all the title work and they're local to me). They'll get you a quality 25 year old JDM Land Cruiser if you ask nicely I'm sure.

You will not have these....

Bilstein, Toytec, Fox, Radflo, ICON and probably a handful more make lifts for the T4R's!
Sounds like he may not be up to speed on the T4R's......

I have the ToyTec 3 inch lift and XREAS with no issues.

For help with searching for modification of a GX460 - search for Landcruiser Prado 150. That is what the GX is for the rest of the world.

Everything that you can get for the 4runner you can also get for the Prado 150/GX. So suspension, roof racks, snorkle, winch bumpers, etc are all available, but you may have to pay a bit more for shipping from Australia. Some folks have done the swap of body parts to actually make the GX body match the Prado. Front bumper and side skirts.

Things you need to consider:

The rear door opens the wrong way. It's intended for right hand drive, so it will open toward the curb. If you live in a city, this can be an issue. I very much prefer either the real Land Cruiser split hatch/gate or ambulance doors to a full hatch, but not everyone does.

The GX460 is heavier.... a LOT heavier. It will not be better offroad than a 4runner. It should be less capable in stock form in almost every offroad scenario considering that it has the same basic suspension design and tire size, but more weight. It does have a bit more power, but only a little bit and the extra weight offsets any performance from the v8. Acceleration is practically identical.

The GX also has a tall deck height and the seats don't fold flat. If you're planning to sleep in the back, check it out before you buy. This was one of the primary reasons I chose the 4runner. I have no need for a 3rd row and really didn't like how the interior folded down. The same is true for 3 row 4runners.

A late model CPO GX is often cheaper than a new 4runner.

After taking a look at the GX 460 and reading what you guys wrote I'm definitely not getting it.

I started checking out the Ford Explorer again tonight and lifting it just looks like a major pain in the..., but when I originally asked Ford during my initial inquiries they said they could lift it for me right from purchase. They must be talking to the same guys that are going to install that supercharger on the 4runner for me right form purchase.

I can go round and round with this, but it seems no matter what I look at if I'm going to get a mid-sized SUV then the 4runner is my best shot if I want to be cool as anyone with those sweet 4runners in the lift pictures sticky thread 5th gen.

The explorer has the power and torque, but who cares if I can't get it lifted to a reasonable height. I'm gonna think a few more days on it. My salesman from Toyota didn't return my call today, so I decided if I don't get a return call that's a sign to use a different salesman. You can't return my call then you can't get my business.

So is the only reason you're wanting a Pro is because of the color? You mentioned you liked the height of it, but also wanted to get a new suspension for it if I am reading all of this right? Have you considered a Trail plus an aftermarket suspension of your choice? You would probably come out a couple thousand dollars ahead that way. But if its the color you like, the trail won't do a thing for you.

I've seriously considered both. The inferno is pretty sweet, but I wouldn't buy the Pro just for that. And seems a waste of money to buy it then lift it immediately. I am still considering the Trail and after finally getting around to read some of the build threads by these guys I do feel a lot better about it. If I got Pro then I'll keep it MOSTLY stock for a while. I will leave the suspension alone for probably 1-2 years and see how it goes. The dealer found a Trail premium for me the other day, but the people I spoke to about the lift gave me no feeling that I should work with them. So yea, I think your advice seems pretty good, but considering I don't have any contacts that I have 100% faith in I believe the Pro is the safe choice until I do my homework. But yea, good advice. Maybe you should get an older 4Runner because the people in the 4th gen and older forums don't seem to need to posture. They don't realize that anyone living on the OBX full time probably does more off road in a month than they do in five years.

Hahahha. Good stuff man. I moved across the bridge to Currituck about 10 years ago, but it sure is easier to explain I live in the Outer Banks than Currituck. Live it here and obviously you do too. I own a business there with and work full time at an insurance agency here in Currituck. I would love to get an older vehicle, but this purchase has to act as my primary right now because I'm selling my Prius to my other business. I need something that is 99% reliable because I have very little time to turn wrenches.

The TLC4x4 does the Landcruiser restorations to any extent you want, I love the 60 series. Just an idea. I had a buddy get a 1960's LC pickup and it was immaculate & bomb proof.

GET THIS! I called another dealership because I had to quit working with the dealership that wanted to install the S/C. So I contacted a dealership that has a black TRDP that should arrive within 30 days. I want the inferno, but he said I could make a deposit on it and use it as a trade to another dealer (Sure...). I consider anyways, because the black looks sweet.

Here's where it gets good...

MSRP $43,239 when I priced it online through Toy website. Dealer tells me $44,982 MSRP. Tries to say it's from the upgrades. I call him out because the "upgrades" were only about $300. And we wonder why people hate dealerships and salesman.

Of course they made a "mistake" and then sent me the estimate which was nearly identical to mine. Seriously?:withstupid::withstupid:

Thanks for trying to keep the thread peaceful. I will probably stop posting after this one. I added that guy to my ignore list a ways back it and now I don't see any of his posts which has drastically improved my forum experience. His posts are that of a typical bully. My guess is that he doesn't have enough drama in his life so he creates it here, or he just had/has a crappy childhood or maybe wasn't taught how to deal with people. Maybe he will grow up one day and learn how to communicate. I probably wouldn't make this assumption, but since he's been banned before...

Glad I did this post though. I have looked at the pictures of Wakedreams and Blacksheep I bet 15 times in this thread. Blacksheep's picture with the red threads and orange paint still has me wondering what final color decision to make, but at least I can see it.

I am waiting for the other price from another dealership (should arrive this morning) so I can make sure everyone is in check then I will put my deposit at the best dealership with best price and service combo.
