O'Reilly front cv axles?

Probably cause most are like me and not sure so don't want to steer you in the wrong direction. Post this up in yotatech and see what they tell you. btw 99% of the posts are more than likely gona say go OEM which is the typical response and for the most part for good reason.
 
That link looks like it's the right part. I agree with cj80cruiser, most will say go OEM. I'm not sure how much more they are but someone on Yotatech recently posted pics of the shaft of an aftermarket CV twisting and cracking. It seems they are made with cheap metal or heat treated wrong. The OEM's lasted this long, buy them again and feel safe for another 10 years. :boink:
 
True, there are a lot of "car parts store" CV axles that have a lifetime warranty. Break them and take them back for a free replacement.

I have seen a lot of the parts store CVs break. It wouldn't be so bad if it was just the CV but when the stub shaft breaks off inside the front diff housing (intermediate shaft). This takes a lot of work to get out. I can/have swapped axles out on the trail in less than 30 min but it'll take a couple of hours of drilling and tapping the stub to get it out. The parts store CVs are made in china and I believe that the steel is cheap and poorly heat treated. Buy OEM rebuilds from an axle shop. They should cost ~$100-$130 ea.
 
I have been running the napa brand cv's for over 2 years with 3" lift and a lot of off roading no problems yet. Approximately 20'000 miles. but again OEM is a sure thing.

Advance auto.. But really all the part houses are pretty similar.

For me it was easier to buy a new diff, and now I have a spare.... With a stub still in it!

Pick-a-part, junkyard, craigslist should be going between $40-50 for on in decent shape. Don't waste your money on the parts store junk.
 
I shouldn't have read this thread the other day. Jinxed myself. Took the wife and kid to go "play" in the mud, nothin serious. I'm in 2X w/o diff lock just to see what it would make it through. The stuff I was going through was the bank of a dirt road and it'd been raining all week. Long story short, alot softer and deeper than expected. Now I'm stuck, try 4x and nothin from the front end, turn the steering and here the obvious CV pops and snaps. YAY. Try diff lock and end up rocking it out.

Advanced Auto is the closest store to me and the others had to order from their other locations. I got the NEW not reman (+$10) axle and install was cake. The outer joint was in pieces. Only had 2 ball bearings left. If it doesn't hold up then I take it back to Advanced for free replacement.

You've obviously read this, so be easy on the CV's for a while or be prepared to share this threads bad luck!:dammit:

Sorry I guess im to blame for the threads bad luck since I started the topic, Im trying to find out how much ill be spending on each axle if anyone has an estimate
 
Advanced sells the remanufactured axles for $60, new ones for $70, Lifetime warranty on both, I opted for new at the $10 difference.
 
Just replaced my passenger CV axle with an O'reilly part. Decent quality, but two things that concern me:

1. The boot feels much thinner compared to OEM. Don't know how long it'll last.
2. I planned to replace both sides, but the first part I used wouldn't mesh with the diff spindles. Wouldn't go in. 2nd one when in just fine.

Good part: took the bad one in and had it replaced on the spot. Lifetime warranty!

Other than the issue I had with the first one, the install was pretty easy.
 
Gerdo knows what hes talking about, one of the guys in our group just changed his 8th cv on the trail this weekend, and this one was a set of 250$ SUPER BEEFY ones that he had custom made for the trip.

there has been talk that the Napa/O'Reilly ones arent heat treated well enough and cause issues...

so, if you do alot of offroading, buy OEM,

some of the guys carry one of the cheap lifetime warranty ones from Napa to get off the trail and home, then swap with OEM..
 
I just scored a Toyota OEM reman axle for $60, I tore a boot doing some beach offroading last weekend so I'm going to install the reman then reboot my stock and keep it as a spare.
