Organizing USB/12V Cords and Antenna Cables etc up Front

OK so I just somewhat "staged" what it looked like in my rig during our week long mostly overland trip from Oregon to Canada last August. It was much more organized that what you see in the photo. Here's a list of what was up front electrically speaking:

1. Two USB cords for two cell phones (wife and mine)
2. One USB cord and AC adapter for the Samsung Tablet for the GAIA navigation maps
3. One 12V receptacle for the Handheld Midland CB radio
4. One antenna running from the"lil" Will on the roof to the handheld
5. One 12V receptacle to power up the single outlet DC to AC cup holder inverter (Used to charge camera and video batteries)
6. One 12V receptacle for the cheap aftermarket 12V/USB add-on's This added three additional 12V and two USB outlets.
7. AND, the a 12V receptacle for the Garmin GPS with maps. (Often times this was removed as the Tablet worked much better)

OK so I have a few extended trips coming up; one to Flagstaff and throughout Utah in a month and then one from California up through Oregon to Washington in July.


Dilemma - How to organize the "needed" electrical cords etc, in the cockpit without sacrificing my center console.

Upcoming changes that will happen before the trip:

• Ham radio installed under the paranoid fab switch bracket.
• Taking my DJI Phantom 4.
• The need to charge the Phantom batteries.

Things that MIGHT happen that could affect my ability to charge batteries but highly unlikely:

• Inverter installed

Any thoughts and ideas on how either you organize, or perhaps how you plan on organizing your USB and 12V cords in your sacred cockpit area, please post!

So in my center console I have GPS/Maps (Stereo has maps in it or tablet I can choose). Depending on who is riding with me I adjust my tablet to work. Normally its facing me as I'm alone, but when I can drag someone above the age of 7 along (not my son). They like to navigate for me. Coming from behind the seat and up long the passenger seat (along the center console is my communications (CB/Ham). In front I have a cigarette light and a converted dual USB charger (phone/tablet). In the back I have a all power all the time outlet that is routed up to the center console if I need more power. I'll take a picture tomorrow with everything if you want me to (as an example). I thought I had a better one for my 3rd gen, but it was my 5th gen only had the attached for the 3rd gen.

This covers all your devices you had shown (and I can still see out my window).

My eyes and my OCD are killing after looking at that. Ever give any thought to the glove box? You can wire into it and out of it without to much modding. Good place to hide a small inverter and most of the cords.

My eyes and my OCD are killing after looking at that. Ever give any thought to the glove box? You can wire into it and out of it without to much modding. Good place to hide a small inverter and most of the cords.

Well, I did say I just threw it all in there this afternoon for this thread. haha. It was organized for the trip and of course cell phones weren't plugged in off road. However, the tablet and the GPS were, along with the Handheld CB. I ended up moving the DC/AC inverter to the rear 12V outlet in the cargo bay. The GPS was in the center of the windshield. My wife likes her phone for pics so often times it was plugged in but set on her lap or in the cup holder. Anyway, you guys get the idea. Glove box is a good thought. I need to see how much room I have. Also, the rear of the center console is an option. Get rid of the ash tray and add USB/12V outlets.

I didn't post this up before because you said you wanted to keep the center console area as is. Take a look at the second photo. That's an inverter that's wired to my fuse block and relay. It only comes hot when the truck key is on. It also has two 2.4A USB outlets. And is fits in the ashtray with a little modding. There's also the McTuning Voltmeter in the middle of the switch panel. It also has two usb ports. So in total that little mod gave me 4 usb ports and 2 110V plugins.

EDIT: The interior of my truck is stripped right now for sound deadening. If you want me to grab some photo's so you can get on idea of possible ways to route things let me know. I plan on putting it all back together tomorrow night.

But yeah, I use my center console rear for a lot of the power and I have power underneath my rear seats (if they are folded or not) I still have all power all the time underneath. Most of my stuff I try to leave it as uncluttered as possible, otherwise I get frustrated that I can see/reach something. My Cell phone sits on top of my flip up console and for some reason doesn't move during all the bouncing (gotta be the rubber case or something).

There's not a lot of wiggle room next to the ECU/ECM. The inverter I'm looking at is this one: Kisae Inverter/Charger. It's a bit much but Kisae doesn't make a 600W Inverter/Charger combo. All of my POWER items such as this are located where my 'tire jack and such was' since I'm a swing away now . My Console has my winch controller and a few other items that I like accessible. I was amazed at how much room was under in that area being wasted and since it all comes out neat below I never need to access it unless i'm modifying it. I haven't put an inverter yet cause I particularly don't want something that produces heat in the vehicle. I have a neat little cubby spot located in my rear (that's outside) due to my custom bed

If you really need to get rid of the mess of wires in your car, simply use these double wire clips which works pretty good. I am using them for a long time and I am satisfied with them.
