The collapsed length would be very close to the same. If front limiting straps were used would these work? An upper mount would have to be fabricated but I don't see it being an issue.

These are about $1100 a pair from what I've seen so far. Priced right around the same as a nice set of adjustable coilovers.

That would be awesome. Bring a bottle of nitrogen and "air down" your spring rate at the trail head. :fro:

What would you use for the top mount? I can see fabricating a top mount "hat" kinda like a Toytec coilover... or I could see chopping the stock top mount off the frame and doing something like these:

A hoop like you have pictured would definitely be the way to go for the best result and keep the truck looking stock. It would have to be something narrow to keep the upper control arm out of the way though.

I was thinking of something like using a shock eye adaptor like you see toytec and other companies sale for the rear shock upper mounts. It would make going back to stock an option. OR just weld some tabs on the underside of the top plate to allow the top of the shock to fit through the opening of the top plate.

ORIs are awesome and putting them in a IFS situation is a but different but definitely an awesome idea. If you do it then you are on the 1uppers list ;)

And I would look at seeing about running them in the rear too. Lots of fab work though for that as you would most likely have to inboard them.

When your hitting things hard like he is then yes. An that is about what people do to the toy axles to beef them
 
Not sure if it would work properly on a IFS setup. It says the max load is 1900 lbs per strut and i bet you would be pretty much right there if not a bit over.
 
Isn't that 1900 corner weight so if he had two of them then be would be at 3800lb for front half weight. (Hard number estimation)

For example, If the weight on 1 tire is 500lbs, the weight seen by the coilover is going to be about 1000 lbs due to the lever action of the LCA with the coilover being about halfway between the wheel and the LCA mount.

That is very very true. Ok so yeah I admit it I am not the most savvy person when I comes IFS. I know what I need to know to get by. I keep forgetting about the geometry of IFS. Solid axle is so much easier to me lol

Aren't the aftermarket front coils a 550-650lb spring rate?

Yes but thats not comparing the same thing. a 600lb coils just means it will take 600lbs to compress it 1 inch. then another 600lbs to compress it 2 inches. It doesn't directly relate to how much weight they will hold.

Most coilovers have 2-3 inches of preload on them so to compress them another inch from full extension on them shock, you need to add 1200-1800lbs on the coilover with a 600lb coil.
 
So I took the time to email a couple companies over the past couple days about mounting these on an IFS truck. As of right now 1 has emailed me back.

Wikipedia lists the Curb weight @ 3,440–3,740 lbs in which I over estimated in the email

"Message from me: I'm interested in your ORI suspension. I have a 96 4runner with IFS. Total vehicle weight is around 4k lbs but lets say I'm completely armored at around 4300 lbs. Can these struts be used on IFS?"
