Bilstein 5100 - 24-248730 w/ 3" Lift Coils?

Good morning all,

I currently have a pair of the 3rd gen specific front Bilstein 5100 shocks (part#: 24-248730). I would like to pair these with Wheeler's T1 (620lb) front coil.

I have read somewhere that the D558 should be used instead of the 24-248730 due to the D558 being slightly longer. And when I say slightly.. I do mean slightly. Here's the specs.

BE5-D558-T0
3 Spring Seat Ride Height Adjustment Grooves
Collapsed Length: 13.86" (352 mm)
Extended Length: 18.62" (472 mm)
Shock Travel: 4.76" (121 mm)

Heavy-Duty Primary Shaft Wiper

24-248730
4 Spring Seat Ride Height Adjustment Grooves
Collapsed Length: 13.66" (347 mm)
Extended Length: 18.27" (464 mm)
Shock Travel: 4.61" (117 mm)

Plastic Dust Boot

That being said - would anyone see an issue running the T1 3" Wheelers lift coils with the 4-runner specific 24-248730?

We're not talking a HUGE difference here. But I would like to see what the general public thinks.

I have the bilstien shocks your talking about with 99 talls and they are STIFF up front. Im running a winch with a plate for a total of probably 60-80 lbs over stock up front and I had to lower my tire pressure to 25 up front to make it not be annoyingly stiff. I used to have a lifted Subaru with 3 inches of lift and 30s so im used to vehicles riding like shit but this was just downright annoying. They are great off-road but onroad they are a bit harsh.

I don't have any experience with those springs but id imagine they are stiffer than my moogs. My suspension is worn in with about 40k miles on it so any settling has already happened.

Interesting. Were you running the Bilsteins on the bottom perch (zero) or did you have it preloaded to lift the front end up?

And which plate bumper specifically?

Also, when you say great offroad - do you mean for wheeling or forest roads with specifically washboard/pothole terrain?

No "bumper" just a harbor freight winch plate (~50 lbs) and their badlands 5k winch (~15-20 lbs) made to blend with the stock bumper( See link to photo below)

Winches under factory bumpers?

They are set to the bottom perch so no lift from them. Washboards are.... not great, I've hit some logging roads in Maine that the huge trucks carrying like 200 logs ride on and they make it really bad and I'm basically lucky to have my teeth still in my head after doing 25-40 on those roads and that was aired down to like 20psi, granted I do have new rear shocks and springs now so idk how much that would change the ride.

Im mainly talking forest roads and some off-road parks (AOAA/Rausch creek) they do good on. You can stuff tires without the front sway bar pretty good.

Check out my insta(same as my name on here) and you'll get a good idea of the stuff I do as well as my setup.

To sum it all up, would I buy these again? Answer is a solid NO. Not trying to be a hater but they are too stiff for my personal tastes

Why do you want to use those coils? If you aren't planning on adding more weight to the front then you're going to have a bad time. That coil rate is way too high for no added weight on the front. If you are looking for more height I'd recommend either moving the spring setting on the shock or buying a top strut spacer that goes between the strut and the frame. With the front suspension you will get a double return on any height changes made at the strut. A 1/4" spacer will net you 1/2" of lift in the front.

Washboard are my main concern to be honest. With the Bilsteins being digressively valved instead of progressively valved that's probably going to work against me. I wanted to just go for the Kings but they are currently 50 weeks out (1yr 1mo)....

And oh I see - well i'm going to be running a plate bumper and heavier winch (9,500lb) so hopefully it will help soften the coil. I called Wheelers Offroad and they confirmed with my weight up front the 620lbs coils will be a good option. I'll update ya'll when it's installed and I give it a go though, perhaps they were just trying to sell me on something :P

I am actually planning on running a plate bumper (addicted offroad plate bumper) and a 9500lb winch. At some point sliders as well.

So basically it comes down to 4runner or Tacoma specific 5100s and the concern is the Taco ones are longer? Personally I would just go with the Taco ones especially if you've read they pair better with the coils you're looking at, but I'm out of the loop and can't really remember how well the Taco 5100s pair with our cars. I'm assuming they pair well enough because I definitely was considering them at one point in choosing my lift
Fwiw I use Tundra specific 5100s (and coils) and I'm pretty happy with my set up, it handles washboards well enough but obviously can be better (weight makes all the difference). If anything that would probably be my biggest gripe about them. Remote reservoirs are king when it comes to washboards though; if they're not out of your budget that is. Even a single reservoir will blow most progressive shocks out of the water if you handle really aggressive washboards and/or like to go fast over them prerunner style :uzi:
A heads up, if you've already ordered your AOR bumper you'll probably be waiting a good minute on that too. Seems like the running theme with him is to take twice as long as stated or more and leave customers in the dark. Not to dog on him unnecessarily - there's just been quite a few people complaining in regards to this over the past year or two and it's left some of us very unimpressed. However they all ultimately got their product.

Interesting. And how much weight are you running up front? Plate bumper and winch?

And I ordered mine back in early October. Lead-times were at 8 weeks so hopefully early to mid december I get it. I just asked him for an update so i should get a response in a week or so lol. Fingers crossed, I need it for winter so I don't get stuck in the snow :naughty:

About 185-190lbs if I remember right. 80lb hybrid bumper, 65lb winch+synth rope, and a 40lb front skid. For a while I ran just a shitty 60lb tube bumper up front and nothing else and I didn't think that was terrible at the time, until I put some actual gear on and the ride was a night and day difference. Skid plate was a late adddition too and I'm not really sure if those 40lbs changed things much at that point, for what it's worth. With no weight up front it's pretty bouncy and stiff - I like a stiffer ride usually but even i started to get annoyed pretty quickly with it

Update- my bumper showed up last week, so I got mine in a 5 week lead-time hell yeah. And when you're saying a night and day difference after putting gear on.. you are saying once weight is added, the setup rides a lot better?
