OS X Yosemite

Has anyone here upgraded to Yosemite? If so, first thoughts and impressions? I'd probably only do it on my laptop which is a Macbook Pro retina with the 2.7 GHz i7 and 16gb of RAM.

I upgraded on my MBPr with the same spec. It's the same thing except different, your typical update; updated interface, new icons, etc. No stability issues, including with all Adobe CS6 programs I have used since the update (I've had terrible issues in the past with CS and new versions of OS X).

Probably the best version of the OS since Snow Leopard. Boots quicker compared to Mavericks on my MBPr as well.

I would certainly recommend the upgrade.
 
Thanks for the quick replies. I need to go through my various programs to make sure they are all compatible with Yosemite. If they are, I probably will go ahead with it.

Did you guys opt for a clean install or just upgrade? And any program incompatibility issues thus far you've come across?
 
I've had it for a few days now. really isn't any different, iTunes has a different look, safari has a few different features, but its been really on par with the rest of apples updates, different visuals, same thing.

Just an upgrade for me. I seldom do clean installs on Macs.

Only program issue is with Avid Pro Tools, but it's something that I have come to expect. Nearly every standard program should work just as it did, along with most pro-level software suites.
 
Just a heads up, I was reading in Mac World not too long ago. With the Yosemite update for those of us who have Apeture, and well everyone has iPhoto. Apparently sometime in the near future both of those programs will be going away and are going to be replaced. Just some other food for thought. I love Yosemite, except the Safari upgrade doesnt like to work so well on low bandwidth.
 
one of the cools thing about Yosemite, you can receive phone calls on the computer and answer them. As long as you have an iPhone :-) Also drop docs on your laptop and read them on your phone.
 
hope they fixed the boot times. i'm on i7 with 16 gigs but going from mountain lion to mavericks the boot times suffered. i can't update to yosemite yet as this is a work computer and the image isn't approved yet.

Boot times are much improved over Mavericks from my experience, though I cannot comment on computers that use conventional hard drives, as I have not yet updated any.

Thanks for the heads up. I pretty much only use Lightroom, so I think I'm good there.

And just timed the boot and it was just under 15 sec from the chime to desktop. Don't remember what it was on Mavericks, but seems roughly the same.
 
This thread gave me confidence to install the upgrade.

After I rebooted my display went to shit, screen went yellow and green with flickering every where.

I rebooted and now it's fine.. that was flippin scary
 
Upgraded when it became available, no issues outside of Adobe Elements not working as it did. Not an issue, downloaded Pixelmator for $29 and it does everything Elements did for a fraction of the price.

I think the biggest changes are for those that use an iPhone as well.
 
How do you speed up a MBP? I bought mine a year ago and it takes at least 45 seconds to a minute to open up word or system preferences or other common things.

What are the specs on it? And how much free space do you have on your HD? There's a program called Cocktail that if you run regularly, seems to help keep macs running smoothly.

or replace the original drive with a sold state drive. installed original hard drive as supplementary storage in the optical drive slot. installed optical in a plastic housing so it is a fully functional external plug in. did this with my late 2009 entry level macbook. do it yourself procedure with how to videos and great phone support. https://www.macsales.com. sped me up substantially, enough so that I need not buy a new mac.
And I have 8 gigs of RAM, 2 slots of 4 gigs each. It's spec'd for a max of 4 gigs, but will actually support 8.
Max RAM with an SSD.
