I was amazed at how 'exposed' todays cars/trucks/suvs really are. They even use the system if you do not make your payments. Makes the repo guys a lot easier I guess!

Crazy what all you can do with the high tech cars these days. My doors and lift gate have a sticker that says "Warning Traceable Vehicle" or something like that.

I'm glad I still have a 1963 Willis CJ7 Jeep that has no electronics whatsoever and will survive a nuclear EMP blast! :thumb3:

How did the device get installed in those cars? Was it opted into by the buyer as terms of the auto loan?

Seems like that would be something that I would want to know about.

I think it is just part of the std 'safety' features of these cars, like OnStar, or similar devices.

this fits in nicely with my *puts on tinfoil hat* theory that the "unintended acceleration" is actually some twisted geek who drives a Honda Insight, hacked into Toyota, and sends people racing to their death with a mouse click. :keyboard:

on star is installed on most if not all new GM cars, but there's a subscription fee to use the features. it can track you down exactly where you're at and someone sitting behind a computer can take control of the vehicle.

Yes.... for YOU to use the features.....THEY can shut you down even if you do not have the subscription :surfer: I will say it is nice that you do not have to pay for them to be able to shut it down in an 'emergency'.
