Ouch! My new 4runner.

Thanksgiving vacation in Panamint Valley. We took some pictures of the 4runner. Bad idea, I guess it created bad luck. On the way home we got rear ended by a F250. Had a trip planned to Baja California Dec 18, body shop just managed to get it fixed enough so we could drive it, with some parts still on order. Total cost:$16076. Luckily the guy who rear ended me was responsible and had insurance.

I am including some shots from our Baja trip which went well. Only problem was the OEM Bridgestones which limited the roads I could go on. I managed to get one flat. I was worried about the sidewalls, but a stone went right through the center of the tread.

Damn..I am sorry to hear about your accident- glad that everyone is safe. Hopefully the T4R will go back to looking like new soon enough
 
Owch, and just a boo boo on his F250! Seriously, if that was my 4R it would be g-o-n-e! Get it fixed, see what a dealer would give you on a trade for another one. You can repair minor things, but 16k worth of damage, nothing is ever the same as factory after that. I don't mean to be a 'bummer' on your parade, just what I personally would do. Great pics though!!!
 
wow, who said the f series frame was weak? doesnt look like anything happened to f250.
was the 4runner frame damaged underneath?

Totally agree. You'd see ripples if there were HD high speed cameras beside that 4runner while it got rear ended.

That really sucks to hear. I hope the guy in the Ford was at least somewhat apologetic. Glad everyone is OK.
 
$16k is a little hard to believe...unless the shop is REALLY trying to screw over the insurance company.

Agreed with the above. I would be interested to learn what makes up the $16K. Almost 1/2 the price of a new truck from a rear end? Ouch is a hell of a understatement.
 
If you mean the rear bumper reinforcement, it's not that expensive to replace. For $16k in damage, you should have 2 new quarter panels (which don't appear to be hurt), new tailgate and everything in it, new rear bumper and moldings, new taillights (which don't appear to be hurt), a bumper reinforcement, and a new rear floor pan (might be some damage there, but can't tell from the pic). Event at $90/hr, $16k still seems high.
 
You can only see half of the damage in that pic.

What can be seen and maybe assumed:

New tailgate/glass/emblems/trim/R&I all the wiper/spoiler/etc
Both tail lights are broken. left on is smashed
Bumper cover
Re bar
cushion
Hitch
rear frame cross member
Did the spare get shoved into anything?
Exhaust probably bent
Rear floor pan(3rd row damaged if it has one?)

Pull frame? that hitch had to have tweaked the frame.
Quarter panel likely bent

R&I rear interior
2 stage paint, blend

I doubt anyone gets $90 an hour for body labor. Mechanical maybe.

Probably 2 or 3 weeks or rental paid on this repair as well @49++ per day.

Labor is way too high, but its been awhile since I've adjusted claims.

If it were me I definately would persue a "dimunition in value" claim.

Diminution in Value Damages

Just an example, a lot if legal talk but it will give you an idea. Basically, after your vehicle is repaired is it still worth what it was prior to the accident if a potential buyer knew? No. What it does is pays you the difference of what a repaired vehicle is worth vs one that was never repaired. Its common on newer cars and is usually like 10% of the value.
 
A 30 year old nurse rear ended my 2010 2 month old 4runner as she was talking on the phone and unavailable to drive. One 4 inch scratch and bent bracket that held the fender amounted to $652.00. I wish I would of had a hitch on. Severely dented her hood, busted the grill, gouged out the bumper of her car. Too bad it was a beater Honda.

this is my biggest concern. Someone hits my baby and value goes down even after I repair it compared to one that wasnt in an accident. Anyone know what is allowed in state of PA on this?

If that were my 4runner, i would seek this dimunition in value claim. It probably will drive just like it had never been in the accident. However now I wonder about whether i will ever use our 3rd row seats again looking at that pic...
 
Wow! Just sent mine in for repairs also! They said it’ll be about that much to fix. I’m worried about afterwards and if I should trade up or not.

I'm surprised it wasnt considered totaled. youre vehicle must be pretty new or brand new. if I had to get a $16K repair for my vehicle I'd sell it and trade up. yes it costs more, however depending on what was repaired you may have issues with things not working right, panels not lining up, bondo work, paint matching, etc etc. of course everything could be fine but it really depends on your personal preferences, financial situation and what else is available
