So I come up from my office (down in the basement) to get a cuppa coffee, when I notice blue flashing lights over the road. So being a slightly noisy person I wander through my kitchen to my carport "Holy SheepDip someones stolen my 4Runner" "Oh No there it is IN MY NEIGHBORS YARD!!"

Having been sat on the driveway for 22 hours and obviously bored my 4Runner makes a break for freedom, down my drive, across the road, through/over the DeadEnd sign, across a neighbors lawn, across another street, up a curb through another neigbors fence.

Damage was limited, No one was hurt which is the main thing. The public works dept had removed the destroyed street sign by the time I had dealt with the paperwork.

So my 4RunAway has a broken nose and having knocked down an angle iron sign post which dragged its way across the bottom of the engine transmission and chassis with a few scratchs. That factory skid plate saved the day.

Yes it's a 5 speed, but the e brake normallyworks fine and the truck had been quite happy parked there for 22 hrs before going "walkabouts". Went to the garage this afternoon and they could not find anything wrong with any of the components. Normally I would leave it in gear but must of been distracted yesterday when I parked it. Still not sure how it managed to wait 22. Hrs before making a break for freedom. Oh well new grill, new bumper, I wonder what my choices are!!!

......LOL! wtf? that makes no sense but holy hell is that ever funny. Reminds me of when i was out for coffee with my buddy greg in his toyota pickup. It was in reverse gear and it started rolling down hill, forwards, randomly,about an hour after we were sat out. Must be a toyota thing. LOL

That's pretty minor damage. I think you got off lucky! My 4R is a manual and I had to tighten up the e-brake. It's easy you can see the nut and bolt next to the brake handle down below the rubber skirt. Just give it a few turns and give it a try. I was slowly rolling back down the boat ramp while launching. I don't get out until I'm SURE it's not moving!

Do you think a kid could have messed with it? I hardly doubt a parking brake engaged for 22+ hours is just going to disengage itself.

We had the same thOught. Especially after "This boys life" was on the tv a few nights ago. DiCaprios character releases handbrake on car to watch it roll down hill into another car
