outboarding rear shocks

I want to do this to mine. I want the shock to be more verticle so it works better. I hate how loose the rear end feels in these things. Gen Right makes a nice frenched coilover mount for the rear of jeep tj's, that I think would work great.

I too would like to do this some day, if for no other reason than to get rid of stud mount shocks. But my question is if anyone has done this with stock BS wheels?

I have 265 75 16s on stock steelies that work great and would like to keep that setup, it seems as though the rear tire would get awfully close under articulation.

To those that have done this, could you post your wheel and tire setup as well? I have posted in a few people's build threads but didn't get any solid answers.

I looked at mine yesterday. I have 265/75/16's on split spoke factory wheels. There no way the shock will fit with that backspace. A spacer and less backspace is what is needed. Plus probably frenching into the frame to do it right and have plenty of space to upsize tires.

I pushed my shocks out and relocated strictly for the same reasons. I wanted more travel and shock space. I didn't mount new towers or anything but did relocate. I like it much better.

I did mine for the sole purpose of gaining more travel, or better yet maxamize my spring travel. The fact that it stiffens up the rear is a bonus because the more verticle a shock it the more effective it is at dampening

It doesn't look like much but all the FJ's i was runing around with lifted a tire here

So I think I am going to do the frenched in towers and something like pictured for stiffness. Just need an idea of how to seal off back there. Was also thinking of instead of the cross brace integrate it into a roll cage.
