Outer Banks pictures

Well I recently got to put my 4Runner to the test on the beach at the Outer Banks. It was a lot of fun and I managed to get a few pictures. Some are cell phone shots while others are with the digi.

I love being at the Outer Banks. Oregon Inlet is always a fun place to drive. Nice 4runner man

So when did you get out onto the beach?

I actually got out on Friday of that week. I would have loved for you to get out there also, but it was sorta a last minute thing. My brother-in-law had his laptop there but the wifi wasn't working half the time so I'm not sure I would have been able to get ahold of you anyways. It was definately a blast!

I didn't get to drive Oregon Inlet. That was quite a ways down the Island for me and the Corolla area was only like 20 minutes up the road, so that seemed like the more sensible choice.

one of the best places to go. I love OBX. Next time go alittle more south its alot nicer (less people more beach)

I have to tell you, I've seen som many 4Runners at the OBX this week, Even going to Applebees, I parked in between 2, the one on the left of, black one was really nice with dual exhaust.

Looks good man! We have a beach house in Atlantic Beach, which is south of where you were. But, we get up there quite a bit too, beautiful area! If they do outlaw driving on the beachs there, you can always head south, a pretty good ways, to Wilmington, and drive along the northern and southern parts of Carolina Beach. Southern part is Fort Fisher. You want to test your 4x4, take it down there, as the sand is quite deep. I've seen several of those land rover discoveries get stuck due to their massive weight.

One thing I will remind you to do though, as I'm sure you already know, is to make sure you really wash off your truck! Espeicially around the creases in the fender flares, the wheel skirts, and underneath, especially around your driveshaft and boots. The seawater spray is ruthless, and before you know it, you'll see paint bubbles around your fenders, usually around where the plastic fender moldings meet the metal. The sand is a grain, and won't breakdown like dirt, so that's why I suggest really washing down the driveshaft, axles, and boots. The sand can find it's way into your seals and slowly chew on them, causing a leak. Not trying to spook you man, just passing along some hard-learned advice I picked up from buying a 2 year old GMC Jimmy several years back, that was from Kill Devil Hills. By the time the truck was 3 years old, the fenders were rusting out, the driveshaft had to be replaced, and it several other parts underneath due to rust/leaks/squeeks. Granted, GMC and Toyota don't even compare in build quality, but you get the point.

Yeah, I washed her pretty good and driving back to NY I drove in about 100 Miles of heavy rain so shes had a good bath. This weekend I'm going to dish detergent her down really good and give her a nice coat of wax

One thing I looked for when buying mine (05' SR5), was to make sure the rear suspension set up wasn't that leaf spring design. I notice in trd_4runnin's pictures, his has those rear leaf springs. trd_4runnin, one thing you might want to do after a beach run, is hit those springs with some fresh grease "after a wash". Man, on my old jimmy, that sand would get in there, eat away the lubrication, and would squeek so badly, I couldn't stand it. But, I think that was a GM design in general, as several of those Jimmy's & Blazers would do that over time. But, if you find a squeek or two from back there, a few shots of axle grease should quiet them down in no time. If not, you could try what I had to do on the Jimmy, which was jack up the rear, take the wheel off, and use a flat piece of plastic and scrape the crud out between the leafs, then grease it.

I say this stuff, but I think I should also say that I ran that Jimmy pretty damn hard. A lot harder than what you guys are showing in these pictures.

I have coils in the rear. What you are seeing in the pictures are the rear trailing arms. I also have already given mine a great bath. Did so before I even left North Carolina and have several times since I've returned. Thanks for the advice.
