Outside air temp inaccurate

I have a 2008 SR5 I just bought used and noticed the outside air temp readout is inaccurate. It read 65 on an 80 degree day even after driving it 2 hours. Anyone else seen this problem? Is it likely my sensor and does it needs replaced? Where is it located? This should be something Toyota would replace under warranty given there is still one available on my car though.

The outside air temp sensor is actually inside and in front of the dash. When covered, either by a piece of paper or something, an erroneous temp can be recorded.

Check to ensure you have nothing blocking the temp sensor.

kimboy exactly where is it located on the inside of the vehicle. Oddly enough it read accurately today but was off all day yesterday during a 2.5 hour drive...

That sensor is for the HVAC. It makes minor corrections to the selected temperature based on driving towards or away from the sun.:cheers:

+1 on the sensor being behind the grill mounted to the center support in front of the radiator. Mine will act up on rare occasions but in the almost 2 years I've had the car it's happened only a few times and always seems to correct itself. No big deal.

Mine seems to be within ~2* of whats being reported. I don't live by it so it's close enough to give me a general idea.

Thought it was in the front portion of the dash near the windshield. I could be wrong :violin:
