overdrive works...sometimes

I have a 1995 4runner, v6, 2wd. great vehicle that ive had for 10 years with very few problems. but yesterday morning while driving down the interstate the OD quit working. i pulled over and checked my tranny fluid, which was good. got back on the road and it worked fine for about 10 miles, then kicked back out of OD. went ahead and slowed down to 50mph and road home at 3k RPMs. I went out and drove it around some today. when first starting it up cold and driving it, it won't shift into OD even after warming up. If you pull over and turn it off then turn it right back on and drive it again it has no problems for about 10 miles then it'll jump out of OD and only go back in after turning the vehicle off and then back on. The OD off light isn't flashing or coming on. any ideas or help would be great appreciated.

This happened to me on my 92 but I had the light come on. When I ran the code it was shift solenoid #2. Not a difficult fix. I could order the solenoid for $90 or for $130 I could buy all three. I bought three and installed all new. The code was correct. #2 was not functioning. Good Luck

Since you guys are talking about overdrive issues...

Is there a way to disable or remove whatever delays the overdrive when the motor is cold?

It's really annoying in the morning because I live close to the freeway and I get on the freeway before my truck has a chance to warm up.

Finally got my truck back from the trans shop reverse works great, but still no OD. Mechanic says its missing the thermostat therefor it doesnt warm up enough for the OD to engage. Im gonna be adding a thermostat see if that solves my issue, otherwise someone isnt getting paid LOL
