Overland build

I've been lingering here for awhile now. Reading, coming up with ideas on what to do to my Runner that I purchased in Oct 2019.

Decided Ive aimed for overland primarily, weekend trips out, long road trips etc.

I've decided to post updates and progress on here for some more suggestions or ideas from other members and most of my progress pics ive posted on insta prjt4nr that you can see on there.

My old bumper looked okay on the outside but crush can was ****ed. So I decided to start there so here goes.


Pulling out the bumper was a bit troubling the crush can was bent in and bumper shifted to the left, nothing a hammer can't fix.

New bumper weld job. Went pretty smooth but adjustments had to be made for internal clearances.

Yeah, I've been doing some research, they do have king suspension set for a 4runner, that or toytec or bilstien einbach combos.

Tubes

tube job, normally that I've seen others lean their tubing forward alot, this one decided to tuck in more for a tighter look. So when the hood opens I have about 3/8s clearance from hood corners.

So far the front dropped only by 1/4. Not bad but still, new suspension is in the works.

No its held on by 3 bolts per side. With an option for a 4th.

6 total, optional to add 2 more.

Coastal offroad it is sir. And yes high clearance. I was thinking about the arb bumper but weighs too much and only one set look.

Weld job complete, few modifications were necessary. Holes were enlarged for more adjustment. Shes lookin Good.

Took about 3 days due to weather, was a bit chilly out there. Lights fitted and mounted.

Looks killer! I got my ARB three years ago and while I still really like it, I'm digging the high clearance Coastals more and more. Too bad I don't know how to weld myself, and I'm stuck on the college kid budget for now. It looks like your grille's so tight with the center hoop you can't take it out? Not sure why you'd ever need to, just curious.

Not sure why you'd ever need to, just curious.

Thanks! Most people leave their hoop about 1"+ away but that lean i wasn't really into. I left it 1/2" away from the grill if I ever wanted to take it out. I also have 1/8 of play if I wanted to bring the entire bumper out more.

Welding is easy to learn, just takes practice. A lot of shops will do it for you if needed.

thanks! Yeah, I'm planning for a winch just incase i get myself stuck when I'm alone but I'm torn between a smitty or warn.

Well, I was going to say don't mount it until the winch is in but.......

Warn is great but overpriced IMO. Smittybuilts trail knickname is Shittybuilt. I have an Engo that has pulled me and my buddies more then any winch ever should have too. They used to be a lot cheaper but their reputation grew and their price went up.

Whatever you go with make sure to check it before every trip. The whole it's better to have and not need mantra goes out the window if you have it, need it and it don't work.
