Override a/c in Auto mode

If there is a post about this, I didn't see it so apologies if there is...

When I put the climate control in my 4runner limited to auto, even with the heat it turns the A/C on. I've got to belive this impacts MPG. Is this an option to turn off? Is there an advantage to having it on?

Curious..

The computer will use the A/C as a dehumidifier in the winter as long as the outside air temp is above freezing. That helps to defog the windows on the inside. If it's too cold outside, the A/C will not run, even if the light is on.

ok, thanks!

So it sounds like there is no way to "tell" the system not to default to the A/C on when in auto mode - I just have to shut it off. Got it :)

another annoying thing the climate control does is to do the opposite of what i want with the recirculation setting. it always seems that if i want fresh air to come in it sets itself to recirculate, and vice versa. i'm sure that it is a setting depending on outside vs. inside temperature, but it's annoying!
