Oversized Tires & Snow Chains

If I were to upsize my tires to some BFG AT KO's (265/70/17) without a lift, can I still use snow chains without the chains making contact with the truck anywhere? thanks

I personally think the rear is going to be fine. In any form, I don't think the front has the clearance.
 
thanks for the response. That's kind of what I was thinking. Has anyone on this board with the exact same setup I'm looking at been able to use snow chains?

It is a very good assumption. However, it would be very good to hear a yes or no for sure from someone who has tried it. The reason is that I need to buy tires this weekend, so the clock is ticking.

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but just wondering--where in San Diego do you need snow chains? Are you going to be up North somewhere? Or Julian, perhaps?

For mostly moderate snowy roads, you'll be fine in 4WD. My REVO's did great in 4 - 8 inches of snow.
 
I dont know the answer to this, but i can say my revos did fine in a foot and a half of snow up in tahoe. I have some nice z pattern cables, but i have yet to have to use them.

There are some days up in the local mountains where chains are required even with 4WD. Also, I have no clue where else I may end up in the next 50,000 miles. Maybe I'll also have another need at some point. Sure I won't need them often, but my dad found he couldn't put chains on his chevy with stock tires, and had to cancel a trip because of it.
 
I was in Big Bear last weekend during a nice snow storm...didn't need chains at all with my 265/70/17 NTGs.

I'm current in Mammoth right now and we got a good 18" of snow last night. Won't need chains again today but I have them ready in the back of the truck. I'll let you all know if I have to throw them on.

But from experience with a lowered car with chains....even with minimal clearance as long as your chains are tight, you'll be fine. I suspect the last poster is right about trying chains in front though.
 
Is it really icy up there? My friend's Jeep GC w/ BFG T/A's went through some rough snow trails without too much hiccup. The snow was up to the bumper at times.

Better safe than sorry, though, but, like I said, I haven't had trouble in snow with my REVO's (and they're rated worse in the snow than BFG's). I frequently go skiing and we get pounded here. Still, no problems with my A/T tires.
