oztent rv-5

I am looking at buying an OzTent Rv5 and was wondering if anyone had any luck fitting it inside their 5th gen 4runner. I plan on putting the rear seats down and according to my rough estimate, it will fit diagonally.

I only need to fit one other person in the car so space isnt too big of an issue.

why do people like these? just get a regular cabin tent, there are plenty that setup quick and they weigh a fraction of the weight and pack to an even smaller fraction of the size
 
If it only fits diagonally will it impact any other gear you might plan on taking?

It is quite expensive.. for that price I'd take a Yakima rtt and an awning, but your needs may vary.
 
I was debating selling my RTT for one of these. OZT gives a killer discount for military and veterans.

It sets up quick, takes up less space on my roof rack than a regular RTT, and I can leave camp without really taking my camp setup down. It's nice being able to leave camp and coming back without being too vehicle-compliant.

Ultimately I decided to stick with my RTT. Because cool points at Walmart. Bonus points for the Trasharoo and Jerry cans.

I have a multitude of tents over the years..what type of cabin tent are you talking about?
 
The OzTent is easier to store than a RTT. I can put it in the garage when not in use with very little space taken.

Like others who own it, I like the ease of use/setup and the ability to leave camp without having to pack

I looked at tents for a long time and the OzTent was one I really liked buy I ultimately ended up going with a Kodiak.

Bottom line... anything at this quality level is such an upgrade.

Before that I used to rock a Coleman in the desert. High winds days were hell.

Its amazing how well a good tent can keep the outside out.

RTT wasn't for me... but I do like it. It just takes away from drivability in the desert. I go out there to play, so weight on the roof just feels terrible. Setting up camp at a static spot seems to work out better for how we use our gear.

That said, it was a pretty big shock to how I generally load-out the truck. It's not some small "toss it in the back" bag. You actually have to think about it.

Too bad we're so far apart....I could Overland with you any day...all day.

I think the best point you bring up, is you can leave camp. It's a well built piece of equipment...it not supposed to be a 160$ cabin tent from Wally world. Plus it offers vestibules, awnings, etc....bring as little or as much as you want.

I understand everyone's on a budget, but this would be one item I'd bite the bullet on and never look back.

I haven't yet. We're wanting to test it out first before looking into all the addons that can be had with an OZtent. We'll be in Utah in 21 days, so that should be a fairly good testing ground.

Thank you for posting the pic. It is a big large and agree with the others, may be best going up on a roof rack. I am glad it can fit if necessary.
