oztent rv-5

Where did you purchase an Oztent? Also have never heard of it but am interested in the veteran discount.

I currently have a Kodiak 10x14. It's a great tent especially for base camp. The canvas is just nice. Its also quieter than my old REI basecamp 6. The problem with it is the design requires it to be staked down before standing it up. Some terrain is hard to pound stakes into. It takes time to get the stakes in the ground so hard to do quickly if it's raining. The Oztent is a very quick setup and take down. Yes it needs stakes for windy situations but requires far fewer stakes than the Kodiak. I still do not want to get rid of my Kodiak but for trips where we are moving every day or two, the Oztent looks like the way to go.

On a side discussion, we sleep on cots with pads on top in the Kodiak. It's really not that comfortable to me. I need a very thick sleeping pad or folding bed solution that won't fail. Any thoughts?

Good experience dealing w/them

If I'm not mistaken, that's the husband/wife team that attends a lot of the outdoor shows and does a really good job of presenting the tents.

The other place I'd get them from is Sierra Expeditions.

Yep,, SE for sure for obvious reasons

I've only made 2-3 orders with Sierra Expeditions, but all were positive experiences.

One of the fringe benefits of purchasing high-quality, niche products is the places that sell them are often staffed by people who actually use the products and don't have a huge amount of sales volume so they pretty much have to provide quality customer service. I think SE, Equipt, and Cruiser Outfitters fit into that category.
