P-Metric Duratracs - Who's seen them?

Neat. One of the new sizes would fit my gx. I want BFG TA ko but they only come in E. This may be my new tire. Have them on my FJ right now. Not a fan boy of Duratracs but they do all lot of things pretty well.
 
According to the Tire Rack web site they show P rated Duratracs available in the following sizes:

255/70/16
265/70/16

245/70/17

255/75/17

265/65/17 (stock size for the 4th Gen @ $186. per tire weighing 42 pounds)

265/70/17 (stock size for the 5th Gen @ $179. per tire weighing 43 pounds)

Smart move and a great choice for people who want a go mudding in areas where rocky trail driving in'st

255/70/18

265/60/18

265/65/18
275/65/18

275/55/20

275/60/20

Great choice (maybe the only real choice) for people who have to deal with a lot of mud, but still want a lighter P-rated tire.

Are you suggesting the sidewall will be crap?
 
Very interesting. Tthe UTQG rating that is now included for the P-type offers an interesting example of tire property tradeoff.

Duratrac has an interesting combination of attributes, but I always cringed a little when someone described the tires as "...great on pavement". A utqg traction grade of B -- for the P tire, no less -- demonstrates the not insignificant tradeoff involved (often made unaware).

Nothing wrong with making the trade as long as it's done with eyes wide open.

Not at all...as J.B. says it's all about trade offs. Some people in places like Georgia or Mexico may encounter sticky mud that requires a high void tread design. However a driver may care little about sidewall strength, since their treks are only in areas where the sidewall doesn't come into play.

Others in places like Arizona or Utah, may rock climb and / or deal with things like cactus spines that can puncture a side wall. However they may rarely if ever need the high void tires, since they only choose to off road in dry weather.

It's hard to have too many choices, and thankfully Goodyear gave those people looking for a very meaty tread an option that doesn't come with heavy thick sidewalls.

Got them put on today, they appear to be a little more round on the shoulders than the LT models but maybe it's just me. They ride and handle WAY better than my E rated BFG ATs, but that's obvious, and they also seemed a little quieter. Of course, first impressions typically change after a couple thousand miles. They only claim to be .4" (32" vs 31.6") taller than my 265/65R18s but look much more stuffed than ~1/4" should add.

Also, they don't say P on the sidewalls for some reason. I ordered from DTD, because Goodyear told me they couldn't get em until September, and the guy at the Goodyear place where I had them mounted didn't believe me at first when I said they were P-metric.

Will try to snap some better photos later in the week, no time today.

:hiding: I have a 4th gen so not sure you'll want to see the pictures anyway

According to Wikipedia the letter prefix is optional and "P indicates that the tire is engineered to TRA standards and absence of a letter indicates that the tire is engineered to ETRTO standards. In practice, the standards of the two organizations have evolved together and are fairly interchangeable, but not fully since the Load Index will be different for the same size tire."

They must be the beefiest P-metric (in this case euro-metric, virtually the same thing) tires ever made.

did you cal to order? I cant find P rated on their site. I need to order now! may see if htere is a resonably close store as my current tires only have 10k maybe I can get a kickback

Yes I had to call, they're not on the website yet. I was told two weeks but I ordered last Saturday (4/19) and they arrived last night (4/28).

I actually had one rep tell me they weren't available after I'd already talked to another rep who said he could order em.

They were $175/ea minus $25 promotion, $30 DTD mail in rebate, and $60 Goodyear mail in rebate and free shipping.

Not sure why no one can find them on the website. I ordered mine yesterday and they've already shipped (never talked to anyone). They aren't listed as "P", though, as the poster above who put them on his 4th gen said. See link below.

There's the problem, I/we was/were talking about ordering them on Discount Tire Direct's website as they're a little cheaper. I knew they were on TireRack's site but the one shown in the picture is a standard LT size.

Shhh it's a secret.

We've been having horrible weather here so I haven't been able to get out anywhere and I didn't want to post driveway/tire shop photos.
