Sorry for the book that follows.......

My 4Runner was running run occasionally under certain acceleration scenarios. Was occasional as I mentioned, but recently was starting to happen more often than not and worse than before... really jerky from misfires. So, I replaced the spark plugs and wires. I bought the spark plugs from Toyota dealer, and I ordered the NGK wire replacement from Amazon. Ran great after I replaced them.

Roughly a week later, and it's running rough again. Not jerky like before, but hardly any power and very weak acceleration. I was lucky to get up to 10-15mph. However, it'd eventually correct itself and run fine for the rest of my 20mile commute. When it first happened, I stopped and had engine codes pulled, but there were a lot of them I assumed were remaining from my bad plugs and wires. I had them the clear codes, and planned to drive to the part store by my house after work and have them ran again. At which point it only had P0141. My Googlefu led me to a post on here saying that's a faulty rear o2 sensor. So, I ordered the Denso replacement and swapped that on Saturday. Ran great the rest of the weekend (about 60 miles worth of driving).

This morning it started exhibiting the same symptoms it had with the P0141 code. I just went to the part store and had codes read again... this time P0141, P10171, and P1130.

From what I'm gathering the P1130 could be a dirty MAS, or the front o2 sensor. BUT what I've also read is that P0141 is the heater circuit of the rear o2 sensor -- so something upstream shouldn't trigger that code. So, I'm not really sure what to think here.

What are the odds the ECM is bad? I have a 2000 3.4l 4WD with Cali emissions. The AFR sensor was replaced by Toyota about 6 years ago, as I mentioned I just replaced the rear o2 sensor... so the front o2 sensor is the only thing that remains to be original @ 270,000 miles.

Also, a few years back I also cleaned the MAS. I could try cleaning that again after work, but for some reason I don't suspect it'll be that simple of a fix.

Kinda at a loss, and don't want to keep throwing money at it just to still have an unreliable ride. I was trying to wait until I paid off my credit cards before getting something else to drive... but at this point I'm getting ready to trade it in on another 4Runner! (Not to mentioned I've got a small oil leak, and just noticed the bottom of my rad is leaking too! Definitely showing her age nowadays.)

You just replaced your spark plugs. Now you're getting funky sensor readings. Go check the ground connection (aka the sensor ground) by the diagnostic plug that you probably messed with changing the #6 spark plug.

I'll give it a look. I do know which one you're talking about..

There is contact w/ the #6 wire and the ground connection.

That can't be good. I won't guarantee that's your problem, but I would reroute that plug wire. I looked at mine, and the plug wires stay a good three inches from those ground wires. I assume you made sure it's tight, right?

Did some rerouting.. got them further away.

The bolt for the ground wasn't tight. It seemed to just be getting snug when:

Luckily, I had a spare bolt that was the same size and pitch...

Can't say if that was the issue or not... only time will tell at this point. Quick test run it did fine, but it also did fine all weekend beforehand. :\

Someone messaged me on here last month asking about this, so I figured I would update this thread since I didn't originally, and I am not on here that much anymore.

After I adjusted the plug wires to make sure they weren't coming in contact with the harness that problem went away.

I’m glad that you found the issue. Thank you very much for updating the thread, it will for sure help someone in the future.
