P0420 Light on '99 SR5

I have a '99 SR5 v6 with 102,000 miles and getting the P0420 CEL. I scanned it and it was "low efficiency bank 1." The dealer said I needed two new cats since I have a Cali truck ($2,600 total). I cleared the light twice and it came back on within 60 miles both times. I guess my question is do I need new sensors or cats? I do live in Louisiana, and they dont require emissions tests so should I just ignore the light, or will that hurt my truck in the long run?

it wont hurt anything to leave it but someone is smoking crack to tell you $2600 to replace the cats and sensors. Its not cheap but you could do it for around $500 im sure. I personally would leave it alone and keep that money for something else . Hell i had a code for charcoal canister sensor but it was close to $400 so i unplugged the bulb to the check engine light:satan: I know , i know some of you guys prob. wouldnt but its not hurting anything to leave it - out of sight out of mind
