P0440 what's the fix

I get this code once or twice a tank of fuel. I'm not too worried about my emissions, in Texas it's a non issue. But making it never come back would be nice as well.

Oh man I had this code along with P0441 and P0442... Ended up being a bad gas cap and a bad charcoal canister, which ran me about $680 after installation and labor. What REALLY is a bummer, is that the mechanic said everything will be fixed and good to go, only to find out that the P0440 code came back about a week later... Still need to get this figured out. Are your TRAC and VSC lights on, as well?

If you haven't already, give this a read, P0440 fixed. My fix is specific to 2001 -2002 4runners but the link should be a good starting point.

Some advise, after an attempted fix, recheck for the code after driving it for several hundred miles. When I did some of the cheaper/easier fixes, it cleared the code for several hundred miles but came back as a pending code. It wasn't until I addressed the VERY small leak on top of my gas tank (overfill check valve gasket) that my code has been permanently gone.

I had this code and turned out I didn't tighten the gas cap fully. Tightned until the cap clicks...never seen the code again (fingers crossed).
