Paint for Interior Trim Pieces??

So now that my rig is in more or less stable condition mechanically (BIG knock on wood there) I can turn my attention to little cosmetic bits.

I have gotten interior bits out of different vehicles that are all supposed to be "gray". They don't really match up due to slight variations in fade over the years.

Has anyone found a good paint to use for gray interior bits?

You could try looking for a good paint that sticks to plastic.

That's actually what I tried first. They have a medium gray and the cap looked like a good match but the paint came out considerably lighter. They also have a much darker gray that looks almost black on the cap but if it comes out lighter too, it might be a match.

I was just looking to see if anyone had found a specific spray paint for a good color match to the gray interior runners.

Spray it all? Then it will definitely match.

I see. Worse case you just have to respray it all. Thats my plan for my interior. Im going to change the color from gray and black to the metalic red and gun metal grayish color on my exterior. That way the inside matches the outside

The ONLY paint I will use in my interior is made by SEM. They are not cheap though, but I've re-sprayed my blue interior parts several years ago and the paint is still bright, clean and not flaking or doing anything weird. Light coats on plastic work very well and you can't even tell they were rattle-canned!

Most automotive paint shops will either have them in stock, or at least have the color chips so you can match and order them.

Cool thanks, I talked to our paint shop at work and they can't get hold of SEM paint. Will have to try and find a supplier to talk to. Anyone online sell it?

Yep, Amazon, of all places! You'll need to know the color code though, I know I had 3 different cans of blue that were really close matches, so you'll probably want to find a color chart to get a good match.

Maybe they'd send you a free color chart if you emailed or called them? I know I get free color books from my vinyl suppliers when I need one, perhaps the paint industry does the same?

I've used the Duplicolor darker gray interior paint on mine and it matches perfectly. It doesn't quite have the semi-gloss shine like OEM, but nothing a good coat of Mother's or Meguiar's interior rubber, vinyl, plastic cleaner/conditioner won't fix.
Just when you do it, clean it really good, spray a good self-etching primer on first, then a primer sealer, then the interior paint. I found that combination worked very well and hasn't came loose yet.

It will be a perfect match if you have the dark gray interior. The cap definately looks too dark however, but the dye is perfect.

Yeah it doesnt matter if its in te sun, shade, flourescent garage lighting - I am hard pressed to see any difference. Its practically an exact match.

Sweet! I think I might have tried the slightly lighter one, I think it's called "dark gray". The cap was a perfect mtach but the color was a light stone color. I'll try that one today.
