Paint/plasti-dip factory roof rails

So my 4runner is one of the unfortunate ones to come from the factory without the roof rails. Luckily for me, I just picked some up on the cheap. However the rails are silver, and my 4runner is black, so I'd like to paint them.

So...what's the best way to do this? Paint? What kind will bond to aluminium and plastic?

Plasti-dip?

Any help would be appreciated!!

If you want it for looks plastidip would be fine. However I don't think it will hold up well if you load it daily.

I painted the rails on my 4th... dip would be a waste of time. Since they're already off, sand/scuff, prep, paint. Mine turned out great. Also, because they're up high, minor imperfections are hidden easily. Dunno if you have cross bars or not but definitely let them dry at least overnight before you try and put the cross bars back in so you don't scratch off the paint you just laid down on the inside.

I figured plastidip would be cheapest and easiest, but I also fear that it would be damaged during load.

So paint sounds like the best option. Any suggestions on paint to use? I will be doing this in my garage, but don't have sprayer/etc so it'll have to be spray bombs. Caps are plastic and rails are aluminium...can I get one paint that will be good for both?

I use Rustoleum Satin black on trim and tow hitches. It's held up at least two years on the first hitch I painted.

So I went with Krylon Fusion. Looks good, we'll see how it holds up.

I've heard trim paint is durable and tough.

It's what other threads have suggested (use it for windshield wiper arms, etc.) on here.

I have been thinking of doing this for quite a while, also.
