Paint Problem with my 06

I have noticed these blotches of, I would have to say oxidation on my hood, and I noticed a 1 on the drivers side rear fender also. I want to know what these are, or has anyone had these on their paint. How to get rid of it, or can it even be taken off? Its like a disease on my hood...I hate it. These pics aren't the best quality becuase I used my phone...but u can see the blotch on there. Thanks in advance

Believe it or not I had them when I first took delivery and my service manager "burned" them off. Looked good as new. He said that white plastic that covers them when they are being delivered sometimes leaves a residue on them.

Damn I don't want to take a torch to it. I don't even know if they know what it would be if I brought it over to Toyota, Will a rubbing compound work?

I would try using an extra fine cut cleaning compound first. Something like Meguiar’s paint cleaner #A3016. Don’t start with a cutting compound. Cutting, e.g. rubbing, compounds are more aggressive compounds. Cleaners are very fine cut compounds and work well on minor surface imperfections. My 4runner is nautical blue and shows every scratch and scuff so I use this cleaner all the time. Just put it on a soft cotton cloth and rub in a circular motion. An old tee shirt or cotton baby diaper work well. Start here and see if it cleans up.

It's hard to tell from those pics, but It could be your clear peeling off as well. It shouldn't happen on an 06, but If your car is weather beaten, and not garaged, clears may start peeling on the horizontal panels (roof and hood) first. Just to confirm, Are you the first owner? is the roof paint OEM?

I'd clay bar it first as it is completely non abrasive. This will ensure the surface is clean from contaminants and will allow you to examine the damage better. Than try Fine polish, Coarse polish and Compound only if necessary. Point is to move up in abrasiveness for optimum results.

To me, 1st pic looks like a residue, second pic looks like peeling clear. Report back to us

My truck isn't garaged, and I am the first owner. The first and second pic are actually the same mark on the hood. I also have one close to the gas tank. I will try everyones suggestions...Thanks.......... I will keep u guys updated. If it is the clear coat peeling, is that covered under warranty?

I have the same thing on a small area of my hood and then further back on my rear passenger side quarter panel under the rear-side window. It bothers me too because on a sunny day when the truck is actually clean it's got a dull luster when compared to the rest of the truck and you can notice it really, really bad at an angle.

My truck has a few on the roof it was a left over. I had a blazer that did this too the body shop told me years ago bird S--T will cause this if on there for extended time because of the acid not sure if that is it or not.

yes bird poo is acidic and will eat away thru your clear if you leave it on. Always loosen and remove away bird poo as soon as you notice it to avoid future fading

i know the pics were the same, It just looked diff on diff pics. with your nail upside down on the surface at an angle, see if you can notice a height difference. If you find out the stain is lower in height, it's definitely clear peeling.

Is this something a place like Maaco can just throw on a little clear coat and be done with it? Or is it deeper than the clearcoat and requires a repaint? I can't honestly tell by looking at it, but it's an eyesore that I've been debating on how to deal with for years.

I feel you guys. you can Clean the area, wet sand the edges and use OTC clear's to patch it up. This would ensure that the damage doesn't eventually get to the primer and tean to the metal where rust emerges. However, this method isn't perfect.
Place like Maaco can do a respray, but Maaco claims to offer value, so don't expect a great job.
You can also try vinyl wrapping the roof. I am not sure if it would be cheaper or not.
The only right way to do it is to sand down the roof and get it repainted properly.
I recommend doing the clean, wetsand, clear first as it is the most affordable option and it will at least provide "Protection" for the area

They will make it worse than the stain. Spend the money you get what you pay for mine is on the roof so it will stay...

Yeah, maaco sucks the hindquarters, was just throwing their name down as an example. I guess at the time I figured a quick shot of clear coat wouldn't be too hard for those monkies, but you never know.

I dunno how I am gonna approach this yet, but I do want it fixed.
