Paint Protection Film Installed

I went ahead with the paint protection film on the hood,front quarters, and some custom stuff behind the front wheel wells. I told my installer that I didn't want a flat out OCD application--just the areas of high visibility (except for the wheel well application--that was an area of high vulnerability). I finally decided that the look was better than fixing chips. I am not disappointed. The stuff blends very well with the Shoreline Blue, and I am definitely not as paranoid about chips--even though I know that those will come anyway--just not where I can't stand to look at the repairs.

I also had the Ventureshield film installed Sat. along with tinting the front two windows. They did front of hood, partial fenders and backs of mirrors. I'm pleased with the looks on the Shoreline Blue as well. You really have to get close and look for it.

This is the first time I've used this product. I hope it does the trick for preventing rock chips.

Yeah, I knew you were thinking about it as well. Really cool that you went with the VentureShield as I did. As I mentioned in another thread, I had (and still have to an extent) reservations about the stuff, but again, in the end, I didn't want to be filling chips in my hood this winter. That makes the stuff look even better, doesn't it?! :naughty:
 
Exactly - I wanted to get it done ASAP before I got any rock chips.

I got the Wincos tint which really does seem to help with the heat. The guy had a box with a heat lamp and showed me how much less you feel the heat w/ that tint. I told him that was a great upsell box he had. :thumb3:

I'm so freakin' stock, it isn't even funny. I have thought about tint, but I wanted to tackle my reservations about paint protection film first. Still thinkin' about the tint, but it was 88 here today, and I drove for 2 1/2 hours to get home, and the heat management in the 4 Runner was fine. However, there is no denying the cool factor of tint. Still thinkin.... Pretty cool that my film shop threw in a mini detail. My ride is stylin'...and protected. :D

I drove to Palm Springs today and it was 108! I used the automatic windows down feature today to cool the car before getting in. It works really well by the way. I have 20% tint on the front and the car was cool within seconds.
 
Wow, that's even worse than our 102f days here lately. The tinting does help w/ our heat. Ryan, be glad you're considering tinting for the coolness factor instead of the cooling factor. :lol:

I'm totally stock as well unless you consider a cargo net and cover mods. I'll eventually do something better with tires when it's time to replace. Man do I ever dread paying for 20" tires.

Honestly, dude, I just tried for you, but you simply cannot see the stuff in a pic. Now, in person, sure, you can see a line, if...and I mean if...you look for it. It is not perfect--and I am a perfectionist. However, I can tell you that I am pleased. It's a trade off, but one that makes sense to me. Let me know if you would like the pic that really shows nothing.
 
Ryan Thats cool about not seeing it I was worried how it would look installed. Now my next question ball park what did you pay to have it installed I just got a price of $4000.00 dollars from a local guy around me I told him for that money I would repaint the car.
 
I don't know where that $4000 figure is coming from--that's crap. I paid $300 for the hood, front quarters, and some custom work on the rocker panels. The entire kit inclusive of the front bumper, mirrors, and complete rockers runs about $750. This is VentureShield installed at a very reputable (and somewhat high end) installer. I am going to try to snap you a pic today in the sunlight. Again, I'm nuts about this kind of thing, and all in all, it's pretty good stuff. What color do you have?
 
We have a Magnetic Grey Limited, When I first called the place the guys like well we really don't do that or haven't and he's like its pretty detailed on what needs done and he's like my best guess would be $4000.00 he got that about out of his mouth and I was like I'll repaint it before I pay that and hung up. I just called another shop in the area to see what they could do the guy said he needed to do some research for me first before he could give me an honest number. I think about all i would want done is the same thing you had done. The car isn't going to be used off road but I want that added protection. A picture would be much appreciated, You can't beat this forum to keep yourself from getting screwed everytime you buy something.
 
I have gotten quotes for the film installed on the bumper, hood, fenders etc for anywhere from $475 to $820. I am guessing the low end is cut while on the vehicle from straight sheets. The high end is computer cut before hand. I purchased the Hood, Fender, Mirror kit from ClearMask.com and am going to give it a try. Their entire kit for materials alone is close to $350 so $500 installed correctly is not really that bad.

Woah, $4K? His mortgage must be late.

I wouldn't trust anyone who says, "I need to do some research." They will be very inexperienced or just sub-contract the work. You don't know if they will contract good or poor workmanship. Either way, you will be paying premium for the pleasure of him finding someone else to do it for you. Good luck.

On a side note, I've installed the film on my last 2 new cars and will never have a new car without it.
