I have a 1994 4runner with 167k miles. I've owned it for the last five years. During that time I've waxed about 4-5x per year. I've probably polished almost once a year, with spot polishing in between, always followed by wax. The paint is VERY far from perfect but looks damn good from 20 feet away when its cleaned up.
I've noticed that that paint has taken on a sort of creamy look in a stripe on top of each fender, along the whole area where the fender butts up to the hood. The paint is dull and lighter here than the rest of the truck. The truck is maroon, and these areas have a little pink to them - light maroon, I guess. I've specifically polished these areas and that does not help.
Is it possible that the paint is wearing thin is these places and I'm starting to see the primer? Is it more likely that this is something on top of the paint? If so, what should I use to remove it? I'm worried that these areas might take extra abuse during repeated washings, waxings, polishings, etc. because one might hit them twice with each wash- once while doing the hood, once while doing the side. Plus they face the sun. Of coarse, the hood and roof face the sun and are okay.
Please help... and please don't tell me the solution is new paint... unless it's true.
