PAINTED 2nd GEN OEM RIMS

hey guys i decided to finnaly paint my rims this week and i did i them in gloss black . I havent seen any 95 runners with these alloys painted black so i did!! the paint is tough also and hasa super smooth glossy finish here are some pics of the progess i hope to have the rear rims dryed and mounted in the morning!!I also did a front break job myself:frog:

at first i didnt like the gloss look. but then once they were on the runner it looked sick matching the runner itself. well done. :hatsoff:

Yeah to bad i'm parting out that 4Runner and i already have nice wheel's on mine.

Can you gimmie a mini a walkthrough? i tend to be bad with paint. looks great btw!

ya man!its oretty straight foward

-prep rims_ take the acetone and a terry cloth and wipe all the dirt and grim off then take the rims and wash them with soap and water to make sure there are no chemicals on rims

- masking_ you going to want to take index cards and place them all around the rims in the groove between the tire and tape them down with masking tape

-sanding_take the 400 grit sand paper and sand down the rims you have to do this so the paint has something to bite into make sure to get ALL or the corners and tight spots i also used water so i wouldnt burn throught the sand paper

-primer_ just make sure you use a good primer and you want to apply 3-4 coats not heavy coat or the paint will drip and run allow 10-15 min in between each coat after you have covered the whole rim with primer and it is all smooth then allow for primer to dry for 30 min

-paint_ ok now you can use nay color paint you want i used engine paint because its durable and will resist a beating. you want to be 6 to 10 inches away from the rim so the paint is evenly applyed i used about 5-6 coats checking for drips and runs each coat allow rims to dry 35 min let them dry over night in your garage and then mount them in morning

GOOD LUCK! and one more thing make sure you got the whole day to kill and plenty of beer!:beer::beer:

jimmy94- i think since your runner is gold i would go with black but maybe gunmetal would look good also and give a unique look to you ride! everyone can have black rims but you going to want something with a smooth finish so its easy to clean ! also i would put a few coats of clear over you paint job so they will hold up and look good for a while!:lol:

I was thinking of using a blackout chrome kit at autozone on top of the gloss paint..do you think that would work or just be too much? and what did you do to your center caps? i was thinking try and find a gold to do the center of them to match..idk tho. im technically colorblind, but can see some colors haha

ya that might look good! do gold center caps and black out the toyota emblem on the center of each cap i tryed using the dupli-color black crome kit on my stock crome mirrors and it was crap paint waste of money! but i think the black crome paint would look good over black just make sure to clear over them after they have dryed of the night post up some pics of the results man!! :bigok:
