Ive been thinking of paintinf the middle emblem on my hub red with the outet ring black. I saw thius somewhere and it looked npretty cool. Has anyone seen or done this ? I have a extra hub Im going to try it out on.
Please post results and a write-up when you are finished. I should be getting center caps for my Tacoma rims soon and would like to do something like this.
That's a cool idea;I just did mine silver but painted the "T" in red.
One thing to make sure is use automotive paint and definetly clear coat the whole cap. I initially used Testors model car paint for the overall silver and it turned kind of a bronze after a few months exposed to the sun.
I'm going to repaint mine in the spring and might try a couple different things.
Post some pics when you are done please.
I used a toothpick and placed drops of paint around and then spread them out. I did get a little over the edges but I just used paint thinner and a soft cloth and touch to remove excess and mistakes from the top of the cap leaving the paint in the T.
I did just use model paint for the red but definetly use auto paint for the rest and clearcoat.
I also did my mom's Limited's caps in silver and gold.
I did that on my Tundra wheels while i was painting it gunmetal. I pop the T in the middle out and rattle can it red. Since then the red had chipped off from the power wash. You need to sand off the chrome for the paint to stick well.
I just used a philps screwdriver to push the 3 or 4 pins on the back out. I just super glue to put it back on.
I plan on cleaning them real good , then use a Dremal tool with a tiny engraveing tip just to rough it a little( Not a deep cut..just a brush) to give it a little extra grip. Then spray it with clear coat. I was hoping to use a metalic red and use metalic black.
I recommend a mild rub with some very fine sandpaper as that plastic is soft and can be grooved very easily so be careful but I'd stick to the sandpaper.
