Painted over 4Runner logo, on 1987 top...

So, I guess the PO or the POPO lol repainted the truck and the top. When they did the top, they didnt tape over the 4runner logo on the front end of the removable top and it got painted over. Is it easy to remove/replace or should I try and sand it 'out' back to life?

Those badges do come off fairly easy. get a small pocket screw driver or something and carefully (carefully) pry them off. Mine where pretty ugly I pulled them off to fancy them up a little.

so they are just stuck on, no pins? If I knew I could easily remove them/buy new ones I wouldnt be so hesitant to **** with em, but afaik it isn't easy to find these? Im gonna take a look

Just stuck on with double sided sticky tape. picked some up at napa for about 6 bucks, still have half of it left. And thanks. I wanted colorful and different.

I know this is kinda an old thread, but this is what I did.

After getting a new paint job there was one thing that has stuck out like a sore thumb. That being these crusty, corroded emblems attached to the b pillar trim between the cab and the top...

Every 1st Gen I have seen, these emblems are always corroded like this. So, I replaced them with these...

The plate above is aluminum and the "4Runner" is laser cut in the plate.
 
so i am more than likely going to steal your idea sort of.... im going to do that but embed it a little and put some clear plastic over it and give it that "stock" look

I highly doubt they still have these plates in stock. And if they do, and they cost as much as what's his name says... don't buy em. I still have my painted over bpillar emblems. I recently saw a nice post with pictures on how to remove the bpillar, and if I remember correctly the little name plate is easily accessible once that's off.

I would recomend if you need to buy some look for parts in the northern area of the country we get less sun so the emblems are not sun stressed.
i may have the old ones of my 87 ill dig around tomorrow to see.

No, they've been discontinued long ago. I used to be a parts guy at a Toyota dealership and checked into getting some a couple years back. You could not just purchase the emblem even when they were still available, you had to purchase the entire b pillar trim.

They are easy to remove. Just stick a small pocket size flat head screw driver under the edge of it and start to pry it off slowly. It was originally stuck down with double sided tape so they're fairly easy to get off.
 
Mine got painted over black like the shell and then "Toyota 4Runner" stickers were placed on top... looks very nice, believe it or not.
 
Whew! Identity crisis resolved!! Thank goodness. How would you know what you were driving if it didn't have a sticker on it??:D
