painting 04 alloy wheels

Howdy,... I am planning to paint my alloy wheels of my 4runner it has 5 spoke alloy wheel 2004 model. I am trying to see how will gun metal blackcolor alloy wheels look on my silver 04 4runner.
The reason I am painting all my alloy is it started to peel off and two wheels really bad. The new ones are really costly. I found one guy posted a video in youtube using duplicolor and he claims it has been 3years and it is still good.

any suggestions/recommendations on the color or other cheaper options from you experts would be great .

Hey,

Any success on your wheels? I just bought a second set of wheels for my 07 that are the 5 spoke design and same thing as you they need to be freshened up.

Did you go ahead with this and how did it turn out for you?

Hi ,
Yes I did as mentioned in the video but instead of sandblasting I used my drill with wire brush to sand of all the original paint and did without the black under coat and it came out pretty good, though I did not like the color was little dull silver unlike the factory, made my tire look sad. So i did not coat for the remaining wheels.

So I left it for about a year and it turned out that the painting I did was pretty good. So I am planning to change the paint with a little black (gun metal) under coat and sanded the wheel to remove the dull coat, the paint and the primer did a good job It took me two days to remove the paint I had coated, and now doing with the black undercoat as I speak. I am expecting a Gun metal finiish.

Remember I did the test and retest on the spare wheel so if I screw up It can always be my spare. I did this since this had the worst peeling.
