Painting Skid Plates

I recently realized that new skid plates are out of the question due to my budget, so i decided to make my stock plates look nice by painting them. I figured that regular spray paint may not be tough enough, so i picked up some engine enamel. The process was fairly simple; i took off the skid plates, cleaned them (paint thinner turned out to be the cleaner of choice to remove all the tar and gunk), sanded them, washed them off, and then applied 3 coats of enamel. they are currently drying but are looking pretty good. i'll post pics of them when i put them on my car. i think theyre gonna look pretty sick.

I'll be curious how long the paint lasts. I wouldn't expect it to last too long since you painted over the original coating (rather than sanding down to bare metal), and that paint probably won't take too much of a beating anyway.

Definitely looks nice though. I have used the same stuff on a couple pieces and it seems to stay on pretty well so far, but those parts havn't taken a beating either.
