Painting stock wheels. Plastidip??

Ok guys, since I bought my wheel spacers today, and still running stock wheels, is plastidip my best option as far as making my wheels look good since I cant afford wheels for now? I know ive seen several threads on this, but doing a search, im not coming up with anything. I just want to see some good pics of you guys rigs with painted stock wheels. Help me if you can, or mainly, maybe just a link to the wheel thread would be perfect! Thanks in advance.

Duplicolor wheel paint worked great for me. Sand your wheels, primer coat then paint. So far so good.

Ya they have specialized wheel paint in most auto parts stores that works great. I just finished painting mine gunmetal grey.

I don't know much about the look and durability of plasti-dip, but I painted my wheels and they came out great, and have held up extremely well through 4 months and 8-10 off-road adventures. I sanded (futile) then used aircraft aluminum paint remover (TAL-something). Primed with self-etching primer (2 coats):



2 coats of flat black rustoleum primer:



3 coats of satin black rustoleum top coat:



3 coats of satin clear rustoleum clear coat:



End result was very clean and durable:



Took the entire day though, and that was blocking my whole truck up on stands which made me nervous!! Good luck!

I'm a Duplicolor fan. I'm in this thread, along with a lot of other folks. Now at end of second winter and they still look great.

I sympathize. I searched 'Official wheel paint' and couldn't find it. Then I searched Duplicolor and it was right there.

Only use plastidipbas a temp solution. If you want it to last more than 6 mos then sand, prime and paint.

Thanks for the pics guys and for the detailed description on how you did it!! I wll be doing mine next weekend for sure. Would have done them today, but found a couple trails up in the mountains that werent closed, had to go play a bit!! Thanks again!!

I vote for painting. Going to do mine when I get a free weekend. Seems like plastidip is for temp solutions. See what happened to SQ Md when his got chipped. Plasti still looks good, just depends whether you want permanent or temp.
