PalmettoRunner's Build/Pics Thread.

Well I do believe it is actually about time to install my new suspension and rims. However it's going to be a little different than I first thought. I've decided to go with some 99 tall coils and a 1/4" spacer in front to compliment my 906's.

Still gotta figure out the shocks, thinking I'll either go all trekmasters or treks and 5125's.

I know a couple of you guys have had similar setups, anywhere I'm going wrong?

You may be too tall in front with the added spacers on the 99 talls. From what I've read, those are close to the same size. Or you could add some trim packers on the 906s...

Thanks. I think the 99 talls would work, you'd probably be just under 2 inches of lift. The 906s gave me just at 2 inches...I have close to no rake. With the 99s you'd have maybe a half inch, which I think would look good. Or ya, you could go the route I went, I'm pretty happy with the outcome.
Wish I could find some wheels like yours though, they just never seem to pop up around here.

Finally got some much needed new tires and my tundra 17's mounted today and I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. Tires are 265/70/17 BFG Rugged Terrains, wish I could have gone with some at's but couldn't justify extra cost and weight for the little offroading I do. These should keep my milage pretty happy and still get me where I need to go when I do get off the pavement.

Anyway, pictures...

Thos tires look good...pretty sure those are what I'm getting. Really like the KM2s, but not practical for the high amount of highway driving I do versus the little offroading. Glad to see some others getting them.

Thanks for the comments guys. I shouldn't forget to give a shout out to superman3043 over in the 4th gen. section for the rims. Thanks brother!

An update on the tires, I had about 500 lbs. of people on the passenger side the other day and noticed that at a certain angle I'm rubbing on the mounting bolt for the running boards. Anyone know what size these bolts are? I'd like to find some "flatter" replacements.

Other option is always lifting but that will have to wait until I can get these tires payed off.

Those should be M6 x 1.0...That's what is on the rear. The initial replacements I got were round head, 16mm long, and driven with a 4mm allen key. They cut the profile by about 1/2 compared to the factory hardware.

I ended up ditching those, and swapping over to some countersunk phillip heads in the same size... nice and flat. If I were you, I'd just remove one and take it into the hardware store with you so you can verify the thread size/pitch. Any ACE/Home Depot/Lowes should have what you need.

The truck looks great with the new wheels, btw... the only way they'd look better is if they were the gunmetal version. I can't believe how clean your 4Runner is, though.

It's been a while since I was on here, glad to see everyone still active. Not much new since my last visit besides being rear ended. Not much damage on my end, just a few scratches and a dent in the hatch. His 88 olds eighty eight on the other hand was totaled (shame it only had 90k). The front bumper went right under my hitch and my hitch right into his radiator. Wish I had pictures but they got lost when my old phone died. Anyways insurance has her back to new and I should reach the 200k milestone in a day or so. Ill have some pics to commemorate, can't believe it's been almost 40k since I got her.

I would have thought the Columbia heat would have killed you by now in that black machine. Need some updated pics.

I ate at the Lizard Thicket the other week while in Hell's armpit.

Haha, used the ac for the first time yesterday, already ready for fall haha! Nothing new on the truck since the shoes, still need to get the vcg's done and was just told by Toyota that the front discs need to be replaced in 5-6k. Looks like I need to shop around for some good local shops (dealer quoted me 700 for the vcg's and I already have all the parts!).

If I was still in Columbia getting my MBA (eight years ago), I'd tell ya to come over and we could knock out those VCs in no more than 4hrs, with one hour slated for the FIPG to dry.

Good ole SC highway labor robbery. Its worse in Charleston. A friend of mine used to take his autos to Roysons and had nothing but good things to say. In Blythewood, on 21 I think.

My GF's parents actually live in Forest Acres on Country Club Dr. They and their neighbors get their panties in a real twist if you even open the hood to your auto.

Royson's, that's funny my buddies dad is actually the owner. Will probably run up there and see what he says. Really wish I just had some tools, doesn't seem hard just gotta keep track of everything.

Big 3

Spent some free time this past week working on the Big 3 mod following BigFishAllDay's write up found here...

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-gen-t4rs/139597-performing-big-3-wiring-ugrade-3rd-gen-toyota-4runner-how.html

and to be honest I'm kinda disappointed in the results.

I'm still getting considerable dimming of my headlights at idle and not because I have the stereo cranked. This was the main reason I was wanting to perform this mod, that and the truck taking forever to turnover which hasn't gotten any better either. The cap for my stereo says its seeing 14.2v all the way at the back of the truck but it was reading like that before the mod. The battery is not more than two years old so I don't feel like that should be the issue.

Anyone have any suggestions as to what else I could try or what I may have done wrong in installing the wiring? I'm thinking the next step is to try another grounding location from the block, or changing the terminals at the battery.

Here are a few pictures to give you a better idea or to spot anything you may see out of sorts.

Also should I be concerned about the connection to the alt being exposed now? How are you guys covering this back up?

Here you see the grounds connected to the same point on the d/s fender. The power from the alt. comes to the right side of the battery where the 120A breaker is mounted then back to the positive terminal. The other red wire is for the stereo.
