I try not to bump anyone, but I have bumped a rock & a conctete pillar, they both left minor scars. That won't happen again now that I have the camera. Parallel parking will be fun now, and I have the confidence to back up into and out of any spot. Totally worth it!!!

Coming from a Maxima to the 4R it takes a little getting used to, because of the new sight line out the back window, but I haven't had any problems. It is funny you bring this up. Wednesday I went to the mall and they have a small section of parrallell spot in front of the store, then the rest are in the garage. I spotted a space in front, pulled up, an whipped her back in. There were two security guards standing out front watching me pull in. When I got out, one of them said that was impressive, because he didn't think I woul have enough room.......

I use the rear cargo mirrors (non-JBL). They make it easy. When the tow hitch looks like it is about to touch an object, I have one more foot to backup.
What year Maxima? Hard to believe most are just as long as the 4Runner. The line of sight is different. But the cargo mirrors make it easy to cheat.

It was a '97. The biggest difference was that the Maxima had Eibach Sport springs so it sat about an inch lower than normal, so it was a breaze to parallel park. It would be nice to have that mirror that you have but I have the speakers there. I rarely have to parallel park anyway.

It is not that bad to parallel park once you get used to it. The mirrors in the cargo area definitely help you judge distance between your rear bumper and the car behind you. I have never bumped any cars, trees, or fire hydrants, but I have rubbed my tire against the curb. But still, I wouldn't want to parallel park this thing in New York City!!
I wouldn't try it right away if you're new to the 4R. It takes some time to get a feel for how far away you are. I don't have anything to help (rear mirrors, rearview camera, etc), but I still parallel park quite a bit and have never bumped into anything. I'm more worried about the idiots out there who will bump into ME while I'm parallel parked though. That's why I plan on getting one of the hitch steps bumper guards in the rear. I already have the Jaos up front.

in chicago.....there aren't a lot of people who care to think about how close they are. bumping into cars is part of their parallel parking. i've seen people keep backing up until they hit the car in back....then move forward until they hit the car in front...etc...until they're parked. they don't even care to go slowly.
but back on topic...i have the cargo area mirrors also, and they help a lot. being in chicago, you have to be good at parallel parking, but i avoid as often as possible due to all the idiots out there.

I hate the people who bump the cars but I try to avoid them by all means, when I parallel park I usually get out and check the back, see how close the bumper is to the car behind me, I tend to park in tight spots between cars I know are not moving
any other place besides the city I can park in 2 seconds, it's a no brainer once you learn the vehicle.
My greatest parking job was in Manhattan, no freakin spots and I parked between an ML and an X5, 1st time I parallel parked the 4Runner, could not squeeze between the front or back
