Parking Break Ground For In Dash Screen

I'm getting my alpine w505 screen installed this week. I want to make it so the passengers can watch movies while i'm driving. Does anyone know how to do this? I know it has to do with a ground on the parking break. Is there a name for a product i can buy to do this or do you just do it yourself? I think I saw one with a switch on it so in case you get pulled over it wont play movies unless the parking break is on. Thanks.

if your intent is to have your passengers legally watch video (from behind the drivers seat)..there is a AV output behind the radio. Run that to a screen (either overhead or headrest) and it will work when the car is in motion.

No, I want it to play movies thru this screen while I'm driving. I know its illegal, but I will not be watching it while i'm driving, that would be retarted.

Just run the video output to another monitor, that way you're not even tempted to watch because even though you think that you won't watch, its hard for anyone to turn down watching something such as the lobby shootout scene in the first Matrix...

find that wire that was suppose to hook up to the brake wire, and take it out and ground to the metal surface, and u can watch and drive at the same time, thats how i did it on my pioneer flip screen.

alpine and pioneer work differently so you can't simply take the alpine park brake wire straight to ground. Get the PAC piece as mentioned above and it'll do the bypass everytime you turn on the ignition.

I grounded the parking break wire here.

Like TarHeel says and the reason why I originally said to use the PAC is that Alpine doesn't simply rely on a simple grounded parking wire. Older Pioneer's, Kenwoods, etc. could be unlocked by simply grounding them, but that's slowing not becoming the case anymore.

Thanks for the input. I belive this HU requires a sequence of brake pumps between the parking brake and the foot brake, but I am not positive about it. The main reason I want this is not for watching movies, it is for the navigation. I plan on getting the blackbird 2. Does anyone know if the navigation features are disbled when the parking break is not on?

I would suggest against getting the Alpine navigation setup.... I think it is highly complex and not user friendly the least bit. I've also been selling/installing for over 5 years. Kenwood has a very nice and easy to use layout and their 08 stuff is very cool. You can pick up their top of the line unit with nav built in for 1600 retail. Oh and it still uses just ground for parking break bypass. Pioneer has some really nice stuff as well, but I didn't want the D3 because of the fixed face and I didn't have the cash to drop on a Z2. They need some units in between those 2, which is where kenwood has quite a few.
