Parking Lot Incident

Last night, I went out bowling and parked my truck in a parking space that was not surrounded by any cars. I come out of the alley to find the car parked across from my 4Runner touching my sport bumper. About 1/4 of his hood was in my parking space. Since the parking lot was dark, I couldn't determine if there was damage to my truck. To play it safe, I decided to call the police because I didn't even know how hard he had hit me. I left my truck parked as is so the police knew I was not at fault. Wen the police found the driver of the other car, he asked me why I hit hit his car. He then continues to tell me that if he was aware of hitting my truck, he would have driven away from the scene. I couldn't believe what I was hearing! Finally, the police have me back my 4Runner out of the space and luckily there was no damage. I couldn't belive that the plastic sport bumper didn't crack from the impact. Here is a picture that was taken with a camera phone. You can actually see the line separating the parking spots at the top center of the picture.

I feel your pain. Stupidity like that really pisses me off. I had that happen to me before. I kicked in the headlights of the offending car and left a note under the wiper blade as to why I did it. These people must be inbreeding not to know that they are crushing the bumper of the car in front of them. I figured that person would have said I crushed his bumper if I called the police, just like that jerk off you had the pleasure of meeting. The nerve of him, to say he would have driven away. Next time kick in his headlights, I guarantee you he will be more careful parking next time.

Wow, the nerve. He's already illegally parked, can get a ticket for double parking, and he has the nerve to lie.

Did the police give him a double parking ticket?

At least there was no damage.

The douchebag that lives near me backed into my other car setting off the alarm. I go out and ask if he hits me and he outright denies it and goes on to say that his POS B*tching Moaning Whining X5 has a sonar parking and demos it. I'll settle with that ****sucker later on.

It's reasons like this I have a bullbar, if that gets mangled, I'll get an ARB or Shrockworks bumper. I hate morons who park by feel.

Glad to hear you came out unscathed Mark.

No, and that angered me. I think he knew one of the cops that responded.

So do I. Especially people who parallel park by feel.

and 007Runner, that's a bit risky. If you get caught, I don't think the cop would be too likely to let you go without vandalism charges. and in a way, you're stooping to their level. i would just let the police take care of it.

Did you get the cop's badge number? Go to the local police station and file a complaint. Let them know that you don't think its fair. If you feel like you should have your truck checked out, do so. There may be hidden damage.

I wouldn't take the risk if it weren't my fault.

Sorry, I hate to see that happen.

Now that would piss me off...
But keep a cool head, take a deep breath, don't blow up, don't let the adrenaline get the best of you because the next steps require a clear head:

I would install my hitch ball (or if you already have a hitch step in place it works better), drive out of the spot, back into the same spot, make sure you are lined up not to do damage to your rear bumper, and then push him back where he belongs! If he can't park it right in the first place then you can show him how it's done. And since he demonstrated that he can't park then he shouldn't be driving. I reach for my trusty valve core removal tool and proceed as required. (Watch out for security cameras these days.)

Feeling of getting even: Priceless.

Unfortunately, I did not get his badge number. Since it happened in a quiet town, I had three police cars show up for this. I looked everything over once I got home and didn't see anything. In addition, I don't think the impact was too hard if the plastic sport bumper survived.

His front bumper had a nice collection of dents and different colored paints on it, so he probably wouldn't have realized it! That is definitely a great way to handle something like this. In addition, there are security cameras in the lot and it is very busy.

What an idiot !!

Those are the times you'd like to put it low range , lock the center diff. and push that SOB half way across the parking lot .

what a fricken moron happy to hear all came good for u man good move on calling the cops i would have done the same my self u lucky!!!

:iagree:

I had some a-hole leave two perfectly round license plate mount screw dents in my front bumper once. Goddam I was (well still am) pissed about it. Way to go with the headlights!!
