Part number for factory VSC Off switch?

Hey guys,

Does anybody happen to have the part number for the 2008-and-later “VSC OFF” switch? This is the one I’m looking for (photo courtesy of NSBCruiser's post over on the FJ forums):

I’m looking to do the VSC-off mod with this, using some relays to make it a constant instead of momentary pulse. But I kinda need the switch itself first. . . .

on a side not, anybody know whats involved in or if its even possible to use this switch in an 06, i know theres a mod , just thought a dash switch would be nice.
 
To use the factory momentary switch, you'll need to wire up some relays to turn its single pulse into a constant on/off connection for use with the ECU-grounding mod. It doesn't look difficult, but I want to make sure I've got it right before I post up a wiring diagram.

I should get to this in a week or two, and I'll report back with plans and diagrams . . . or a cautionary tale of woe. Time will tell which one :-)

Another approach, probably more difficult but does work, is to convert the momentary switch by inserting a spring/catch setup. I opened the switch and compared to an FJ fog switch I had and the only difference is 2 small metal bars (about the size of sewing pins) that act as a spring and catch to hold the button down and the circuit open. The VSC switch already had all the spring holders & catches in place just no springs. I used some needle nosed pliers to bend pins into the shape of the FJ pins (one S shapd and 1 just flat). It was a little tedious getting the sizes right but it works and didn't require the extra wiring.

Ya know, I had taken a switch apart before & wondered if that was possible. I wanna try it. GATEROSE, can you describe the rods / pins that you used? Where did you get them? Thanx for doing this switch "mod"!

I got the switch and am in the process of converting it to on/off. I duplicated the super thin horizontal piece with some guitar string. I'm now trying to figure out what to use to make the zig zag piece. At first I tried using a lead from a resistor I had, but that metal is too bendable and won't hold it's shape enough.

What did you use? Any ideas?
I might just steal it from my DAC switch for the time being since I never use DAC anyways ;)

Thanks CJ3Flyr! I had already spent $25 on the switch and really wanted to use it.

Hey SSt4r I'm really sorry I missed this back in november, wish you would've PMed me, I wasn't subscribed and never check the thread again.

The rods I used were just old sewing pins, they were about the same size and tensile. I cut the bubble off the end and cut the point off then bent them to match the springs in my FJC fog light switch.

If you don't have an FJC foglight switch I'd suggest pulling out one of the other switches that stays in when you press it. It's a pita to get the pins bent just right but it works well once you do it.

Also MSU4Runner, if that guitar string is too bendable just use a sewing pin for that like I did too. It was a little thicker but that didn't seem to matter and it works fine.

EDIT: also on the bent piece, the big end inserts into the switch and the short end points up (and will be what catches to make the button stay pressed)

Thanks, gaterose. Turns out the piece I made did work. The problem was the first time I reassembled the switch I didn't have it positioned so that it fit into the track assembly on the top piece when snapped into place. It bent it downward and didn't engage. Works fine now, though. I did what you said and took out my DAC switch to copy the pieces. Definitely makes it easier.

Is this mod of the switch for the VSC and TRAC Off? That is exactly what i wanted to do but didn't have a clue i could make it an On/Off switch like this!

Is there more detail for which wires to connect to the switch and how do I go about connecting the wires to the bacl of the switch without the wiring? Or does the plug exist behind the panel?

Yes it is, I honestly don't remember how it was wired. I removed and sold the switch a long time ago.

If you search you should be able to find instructions for the VSC mod and, I think, info about wiring that particular switch. You may have to search fjcruiserforums.com as well as toyota120.com. Sorry but it's been so long I just can't remember anything that would be useful to you.

So I did this mod to the switch and it now stays in untill pushed again.

I then wired the switch up for the VSC mod. I spliced in to the white/black wire at the bracke fluid reservoir.

I have 2 problems though:

1. when the switch is pushed in everything works normal, when the switch is popped out is when VSC is shut off. I switched the wires around and it still works the same way

2. other problem is the system does not turn off and on with the switch. I have to push the switch and turn the key off, then back on to get VSC back on.

Any suggestions guys??

I'm not sure how you can wire it so it works the opposite way unless perhaps you used a relay to reverse the functionality somehow. I personally would probably leave it alone and let it have opposite functionality.

When the button is pressed it closes the circuit and reconnects the wire you have split and put the switch in the middle of. So when the switch is out, the switch is "off" and the ABS wire isn't complete. It's only going to complete the circuit when pressed in (i.e. turned "on").

As for the VSC mod, the way you did it, as far as I know it's going to require you to kill the engine. I'm not sure about using the 4x4 VSC wire mod, but the 2wd VSC mod that involves using the ABS wires you mentioned cannot be reversed until the computer is reset by turning the engine off and back on.

When you disconnect the ABS wire (which is what you're doing) it basically tells the computer something is wrong and that's why your VSC goes out. So when you close the circuit by pressing the button in everything is right again, but the computer has not been reset by being shutoff and turned back on.
