Parts needed for trans. cooler install

I got a '99 recently and figure the first thing I should do is get some insurance; put in a transmission cooler, that is. I've got a friend who'll help me do it and I need to get all the materials in hand before we meet.

Since I'm in Texas and it's hot, I'm thinking of going with the B&M Supercooler #79264. Do I need any other parts? How about an in-line filter?

Tom, although I've never run one, there are certainly benefit to running an inline filter. Other than what comes in the kit, it's a good idea to buy about 10' of 3/8" rubber hose. (I used fuel hose) and some extra clamps. A lot of guys say that the hose supplied in the kit isn't long enough for the 4R.

Should I buy online or is this a local auto parts store purchase?

Also, would it be preferred to mount it away from the radiator with a spacer, rather than touching the radiator?

The kit should come with a rubber spacer so that it isn't directly touching the evaporator.

8 feet of 3/8 transmission hose is all you need, I bought 10 and had a bunch left over. You'll also need some hose clamps, kit only supplies 2 and you'll need 6 total if you bypass the radiator(4 to clamp the hoses to and from cooler and 2 to clamp the hose that seals the factory transmission cooler) . I'd also recommend having an exacto knife to cut the hose off the transmission tubes as they are very difficult to remove otherwise. I ended up using about 1.75 quarts of ATF fluid to refill the system.

Do you lose a lot of fluid on the install? Should I do a flush at the same time, and put in new fluid? Seems the filter would appreciate that.

You shouldn't lose much if the transmission is cool. I lost pretty much only what was in the hoses and the factory cooler.
