The 1KD-FTV is a 3.0L (2982cc) straight-4 common rail diesel engine with a variable geometry turbocharger and Intercooler. It has 16 valves and a DOHC (double overhead camshaft) design. Bore is 96 mm and stroke is 103 mm. It generates 170 hp (125 kW) at 3400 rpm, and 260 lbf·ft (352 N·m) of torque at 1800-3400 rpm. Redline of this engine is at 4200 RPM. Compression ratio is 17.9:1

This engine has not been available in the US, so you will not find many tune up/performance parts here.

The ECT button controls the transmission shift points. It allows the engine to rev a little higher under certain conditions. It also re****s the ignition timing a little which reduces torque and allows a smoother shift.

Many thanks.
That will help. there is a company hear that can fit a tune up that plugs into wiring loom somewhere, better mpg and power when towing.
Are you familiar whith such a divice.

Apperently the 3.4 has a little more HP than the 3.0, so i will do a flat trade on trucks with you, its only about £1200 to ship each truck across the pond.

Lol! Hes only got about an extra 80 lb/ft of torque tho ;) Id love that truck as well, I love a good diesel.

Sounds like a 'chip'. Those are common for diesels and can make a noticeable improvement. They basically reprogram the ecu for max power, since the factory settings are a usually a compromise between power, efficiency, and engine longevity. They are not cheap though.

Have you looked at www.hiluxsurf.co.uk ? You might find some good info there.

Thats what i didnt want to mention.

And Yes, Chips do wonders for diesels, boosted the jetta quite a bit.

And the ECT button may be useless on yours if its manual, because they still put the button on whether it was auto or stick.
