passenger airbag light

Hey guys

this past weekend, i turned the truck on, and the passenger airbag light was at "off". i didn't change or do anything to put it that way. later in the trip, it turned back on. and again, back off. i'm not even sure where it's at now.

any idea why? can i control this?

Did you have anything on the seat (briefcase, shopping bag, etc)?
 
This happens in mine too and I think it sucks! My wife weighs about 105 lbs and it's not enough to always trigger the airbag system to turn "on." I took it to the dealer and they have a "weight bag test" that they place on the seat to test the system. I think they said it weighs 90 lbs? When they tested it worked fine. But, I still contend it doesn't work right in my truck. Sometimes my wife has to push on the ceiling to apply more weight to the seat as she buckles her belt to get it to turn "on." Sometimes after a little while it still turns to "off" but usually it stays "on." I guess, the theory behind why it doesn't kick on when a lower weight object or a kid is on the seat is to protect the kid. Even if something is under the minimum weight is on the seat I believe it does notice that "something" is there though. If you have nothing on the seat and the seat belt is un-buckled it displays nothing (neither on or off). When I have my briefcase on the passenger seat, with the seat belt un-buckled it displays "off."

I think the weight sensor should activate at a lower weight limit, but my dealer said there is no way to adjust it. With all the engineering that goes into these systems, I would think should work flawlessly with a 100 lb woman, but it doesn't. Kinda lame!
 
wow man, great write up. thank you. this may save me a visit to the dealer.

my girlfriend is around 110 lbs, and i think she may have had her feet resting on the dash or something also, which could have allocated some of the weight off of the seat. i'll just try sitting in it and see what happens.

you a climber?
 
Sounds like a similar problem. If you do end up at the dealer, I'll be curious to hear if they tell you the same thing or something different.

Yah, I climb a fair bit. Since I live in the midwest I am somewhat limited, but we make it to Colorado & Wyoming several times a year to climb and or ski.
