Passenger Airbag Off light is stuck on

Today as I was driving with my 1700lb friend in the passenger seat. He was impersonating the guy in this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmBp4yr-8a0
Then the airbag light in the gauge cluster came on. And over near the passenger side, it said Passenger Airbag off. I have tried unplugging the battery and unbolted the seat to unplug each wiring harness under there. After plugging everything in nothing changed. Lights were still on. Does anyone have any suggestions of things I should try?

Gonna guess the passenger side seat pad and/or detector is damaged/failed now (Forget if the 4th gens use a seat pad or a funky deal on the frame of the seat.)

I'd get the SRS DTCs pulled if you could to get a better idea.

I know Pepboys will read check engine light for free, do you think they can read the SRS code?

Don't know... SRS is not mandated by ODBII regulations, so generic scanners typically do not communicate with SRS. It's worth a shot to see if they have an SRS capable tool.

Which the internet says is Occupant Classification System Malfunction. Could it be a bad sensor? I looked under the seat and it looks like there are 4 sensors under there. One on each corner. Do you think one of those are bad? I would like it if I could fix this myself because Iv'e been told that service involving the SRS typically costs a minimum of $300 and there are countless aftermarket parts I would rather put that towards. :ybrick:

I had that happen after a passenger slid something under the seat. I just moved the seat back and forth and eventually it turned off. Maybe I just got lucky with a loose connection but what the heck, give it a try.

Did the passenger recline the seat? That will turn that seats airbag off. Just return the seat to it's upright position and the passenger side light will go back on.

We had one that had an issue, I think we were able to recalibrate it with specified weight and the scantool.

Additionally, make sure all the plugs are plugged in under the seat and no wires are broken.

Just make sure you're using the specified weight when calibrating it, there is some variance allowed but it is needed for the dual stage airbags.

I have tried everything from checking connections to putting the seat in different positions to unplugging battery for a night and nothing.

I read some things online about calibrating the weight sensor which I really hope is all it needs. I don't have a scanner to access the OBD. I see ones online ranging from $150-$700 that say they access the SRS. Will the cheaper ones do the job and are they vehicle specific?

What Scan tool is a good one to get for this? I see ones that say they do SRS but does that mean it can only get codes? Do I have to get a certain one that can recalibrate it or can all of them do it?

Might be able to do it with one of those Chinese TIS Techstreams.
