Passenger Floormat Soaked

Just noticed that under my WeatherTech, my passenger floormat is soaked. This is just after rain, however the rain itself didn't cause it, it only happened after I sped through some puddles. I noticed the same thing after a heavy water crossing and a car wash.Anyone know the cause? I cant deal with a wet interior.

Check the AC drain tube grommet. There isn't much else that might leak during splash events that I can think of.

If it truly isn't happening during rain, it won't be the sunroof or even leaking door moisture barrier.

You have to get under the dash and look for any holes in the firewall and also get under the rig and do the same thing for the engine side.

Worst case; have someone spray water from a hose. Make sure it isn't getting in from the fender wells.

Will do. I thought it was odd that it only leaked from splashes rather than rain.

do you have a sunroof??? if so the drain tubes get clogged and soak the passenger side typically. Or the AC condensation drain tube came loose as was mentioned.

I'm extremely new to 4runners, so I don't know the location of some components.
But the first thing I think with water on the passenger floor is 'heater core'.

There are some floor drain plugs. Pretty much just a hard rubber plug that's RTV'd in place. If it's brittle and cracked, a puddle might make its way inside.

Obviously pull the carpet and padding up and hit it with a fan or it will smell like wet dog forever, especially under a WeatherTech. Unscrew the plastic at the bottom door jamb as well, I think there's 4 screws then the piece pops up and you can roll back the padding to see how far it got wet.

An update: I took out the weathertech and rolled back the carpet/insulation and found it soaked underneath, with the upper part (where it begins to slant upwards near the fender) being pretty dry. I'm going to leave it to dry overnight and try the good old hose test in the morning. The plug at the bottom seemed fine, although slightly ajar? Might just be my imagination. I also checked the AC drain under the hood and took off the "L" pipe and it was just fine. Also, the grommet under the hood seemed fine. Getting more and more worried.

It could be water tracking down your antenna cable and onto the floor. Make sure that the cable has a drip loop inside the fender before it comes into the cab. I've seen this happen when people replace the antenna and forget the drip loop. Ends up with a very wet passenger floor.

How can I check on this? Does it require ripping off my fender?

We had this with my wife's Prius and it was a clogged rain gutter in the roof, apparently coomonoy caused by spiders. Not sure if this applies to our 3rd gens , but as I said apparently happens somewhat regularly.

Try spraying lots of water on and around your antenna and see if it tracks into the cab on the cable. If it does you would have to at least partially remove your fender to make a proper drip loop. Has your antenna ever been replaced? If not, it is doubtful this is the problem.

yeah, the previous owner did the taco whip mod.

I had the exact same issue as you but on my driver side floor mat. I also just purchased my 4runner. Im interested to hear your findings, and ill let you know the root of my issue as soon as I find out!
