Passenger Side CV Boot Leak

Well.. after having replaced the Alternator not too long ago, I'm headed back to the dealer tomorrow. As I was changing my differential gear oil I noticed the passenger side CV boot leaking grease. It's the boot closest to the wheel. Didn't see any tears in the boot so maybe it's just a loose clamp. Let's see what they tell me tomorrow. I'm sure I'll make use of that Platinum Warranty again.

Welcome to the club if it's the small clamp. Several on here have had this. I've had to do both inner boots. Glad your warranty covers it. If not, check the link in my signature. It's an easy, but messy, fix.

Thanks for the link. I came across it last night when I was researching this problem and potential fixes should the dealer not cover it. Do you happen to know the part number of the CV Axle complete unit (w/ boots)? If the dealer won't cover it, I'll replace the whole unit instead of just the boot clamp.

Just another problem to add to the long list of problems I've had with my 4Runner.

Update: Inner clamps rotted, need to be replaced but not covered under warranty. Clamps are $11 each (4 need to be replaced - guess they are replacing all the clamps on the passenger side) and they are special order so won't get fixed today. Total plus labor is about $170 :dammit:

Sorry to hear it. Take it to a better shop (non-stealership) that will only do what is needed or do it yourself. $2 / clamp and the labour is free. Working on your truck: priceless! You can probably replace the half-shaft for that kind of coin.

So, of course, I happen to be rotating my tires like a good 4Runner owner should do and guess what I find.. the f*** driver side CV boot is leaking like a sive !!!! This after the dealer told me nothing was wrong with the Driver's Side after repairing the Passenger side !!! %_)(&%!_)#%&!)(*$!(@#*$ :wtf:
