PCV valve vacuum line issue

Hello.

I recently went through my engine bay replacing worn out and cracked vacuum lines. Among those I replaced was the line between the PCV valve and the intake plenum.

The other day, I noticed that when the car was running, it was making a whistling noise. I popped the hood and found the noise was coming from the PCV valve. The vacuum line going to the plenum was sucked flat.

Does this hose need to be something beefier than standard vacuum line, or is the PCV valve screwed up, causing the tube to be sucked flat?

take the PCV valve out and give it a good shake. make sure it rattles a bit and doesnt feel "wet". u can always look at the line to see if its getting sucked flat. Mine was so worn out and cracked that i replaced it with some new tubing left over from when i did my tranny cooler. the tube isn't expensive at all.

They sell PCV vacuum hose for $1/ft at any parts store.

I would think your PCV valve is bad because all it is, is a one way valve that lets air flow from the crankcase to the intake. If the intake is pulling air in but the PCV isn't letting the air flow from the crankcase, the tube would be squished (provided the tube is soft enough to squish).

Just do like bak3rme said and shake test the valve and see if you hear it clicking (it's supposed to). I replaced my old cracked line with normal vacuum tubing and it's fine so I don't think the rigidity of your line is the problem. Good luck!
