Pedal commander vs Sprint booster?

Already have a thread opened for this, but figured a lot more people are discussing here.

Started my 2014 4Runner (after sitting for 48 hours) and noticed the TRAC OFF light and check engine light was on. It was in limp mode. Pushing the gas pedal didn’t do anything. Hooked up my OBD scanner and it showed P2138 (Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch D/E Voltage Correlation). Looks Tried to clear the code, but it wouldn’t work. I tried turning off my Pedal Commander and clearing the code - didn’t work. Finally, I unplugged the Pedal Commander and was able to clear the code. Started the 4Runner again and no more TRAC OFF or check engine lights. Drove it for about 50+ miles and no lights have come back on.

I know there were issues with other users using the Pedal Commander and Sprint Booster, but they've posted about getting code P2121 instead. I’ve had mine installed since April 2018, so roughly a year and a half of usage and never had any issues. Why all of a sudden? I tried searching the forums, but didn’t see this same code associated with the Pedal Commander. Has anyone experienced this code or similar issues? How did you fix it? I have an email to PC so just waiting to hear back. Was planning on switching to SB, but it appears there are issues as well. For what its worth, I don't think I kicked the cable/connector or anything like that.

I just purchased a 03 V8 4runner. It seems most people in this thread are tm talking about 5th gen throttle lag and improvement with SB / PC.

Anyone have experience with SB on a 03-04 V8?

I sell both and the the SB is my favorite with the least amount of issues and I’m the only one giving a 5 year warranty on it.

Bought from Jason and installed on 2012 TE approx 2 months. DEFINITELY a noticeable difference in acceleration. Very good mod for the dollah.

Glad I found this....she was complaining about how bad the lag is on her 4 Runner. I already knew this but I put one in my Ram and found it made a difference. Glad to know it REALLY helps out on the 4Runner

Concur with many opinions here, bought a sprint booster. Made the 4runner much more fun. Unfortunately, sold my 4runner. Have my sprint booster listed on Facebook marketplace since I can't post on classifieds here.

Does the PC and Sprint Booster do the same thing? Seems like they do. I like the idea of the hidden Pedal Commander and using Bluetooth with the app on the phone.

They do essentially the same thing: they amplify and change the curve of the two accelerator pedal output signals to the ECU. With user selectable increments. Several threads on this forum explain this in more detail.

The two output signals are kind of a primary/redundant safety feature where the ECU can check the health of the accelerator pedal itself. The voltages are offset by a certain amount and if they don’t correlate properly the ECU sets a code(s). In some cases it sets the vehicle into “limp mode” to prevent unintended acceleration.

I like my SB. It works well, reportedly is more reliable than PC, and has a small controller.
I have no use for a Bluetooth/phone interface. Once I played around and found my favorite setting I rarely tweak it. Usually just to occasionally turn it off to remind myself how sluggish the OEM setting is.

BTW, all electronics can fail. If/when these devices fail the 4R ECU will detect it and go into a safe mode. Disconnecting the device is the way you recover.

All right, I am extremely impressed with the Sprint Booster versus the Pedal Commander. I got my Sprint Booster through Jason. So far I have it at race five and I am completely blown away. The throttle lag is completely gone. With a pedal commander, there was always this little bit of lag when I push down the pedal, especially if I wanted to pass a vehicle on the highway. With the Sprint Booster it is completely gone. I almost feel like race five is maybe a little too sensitive. I’m going to play with the settings but overall I am extremely satisfied. Thank you Jason from Burtman Industries for getting this Sprint Booster out to me quickly and efficiently. Excellent customer service. If you’re on the fence of getting a Sprint Booster, just order it, from Jason! I thought that my 2021 TRD Pro pedal was already better than my 2019 TRD Off Road and it was but the Sprint Booster makes the pedal that much more responsive. My only complaint is that my cheeks hurt because I can’t stop smiling. I already have that issue getting into my rig every day but now it’s become even more of a problem.
