Peeling headlights

My headlights have started peeling inside. It appears to be tape in there that has finally given up the ghost. Any suggestions on what to do? Do I need it in there?

couple of options. 1) get new headlights, OME or aftermarket. 2) open the headlights, sand that trim piece down and paint it with a high temp or 3) if the money is there, do a projector retro and just black out your housings.

I have a set of drop in hids that I am going to put in (not retrofit but for $20 they will work). It looks like the peeling part is tape. I think I can reach in and pull it out with some long needle nose pliers or forceps. Does anyone know how important those pieces are to light dispersion/function?

The headlight's seal is broke and allowing excess moisture in there which caused the issue. Mine did the same thing and it's best to replace the headlamp.

Sweet necro-bump here....but this is on par with my question so as to not start a whole new thread:

I'm about to embark on a retrofit via goodies from TRS. I'm going to order new TYC headlights, use my current housings, and just steal the new, fresh glass from the TYC's.

question, particularly for those who have retrofitted: what do with the peeling headlights? I'm assuming I can just open them up, and peel it off right, prep and complete retrofit, seal back up with new TYC glass?

I'd prefer not to black out my entire housings because I prefer them shiny.

Who has done a retrofit and encountered this?

I blacked mine out when I opened them up for retrofit. Honestly, if you like the "shiny" but it is peeling, you most likely wont be able to salvage the reflective coating. I would use the new housings or black them out. They also have rattle cans of chrome paint too as a back up. Hope this helps.

I tried rattle can chrome on the tail-lights of my Pickup. Primed it, painted it and in 3 years or so that started peeling off as well. Not a permanent fix.
