pennzoil really that bad???

i just purchased a 99 4r and the first the i do is get the oil changed! i used pennzoil 10 30 high mileage ! then i go to a few forums and hear that some people are saying pnz sucks bigtime ! something like it leads to a candle wax like build up in your engine ! someone please help me out here, if this is true, i need to go get this crap out my engine right now !! and replace is with a better oil !! thanks

I have never heard of Pennzoil doing that. ANY oil can cause sludge if the owner doesn't change it out at a proper interval. I really wouldn't worry about it. Just change it out at every 4k miles or so.

Also, why are you using 10W30? I use 5W30 year round.

Where are you located? If you are in a colder region, 5W-30 is usually recommended. Warmer areas, you can use either.

Costco has 6q's of Mobil 1 syn oil 5w 30 for $29. Can't go wrong with that..... I think

If you're going to go full synthetic, I'd get Amsoil, Redline or Royal Purple. Mobil1 is great, but there is too much "Mitchell Report"-ish stuff going on regarding whether it is a true synthetic or not (group III vs IV issue.) I have used Pennzoil 5w30 semi synthetic in my truck since i got it a year and a half ago and haven't had any problems with it, but I change my oil every 3000 miles.
